I've found that if I crack open the window slightly and direct my table fan at it, the window blinds clattering against the wall make a sound very much like rainfall.

It's marvelous, but also very soporific...

why not leave a youtube video of the sound of rain on an endless loop? not as serendipitous, but much more consistent.
