Ok, so I've made (very) few icons of a Dornish-sque nature, inspired by the fact that I disagreed with all the versions of Quentyn Martell I've seen so far. So, I've decided to take my pick and try to come up with something more suiting my tastes. I spectacularly failed but then I was never good with graphics... Still I thought I'd share - you never know, someone may like something. So, here we are:
I've used
Mathia's picture of Oberyn for the blue one, all credit goes to her. As for the rest, it's googled. (in all cases if you are an author and object to the picture being used in an icon, let me know) As it happens I've never been to a desert and so don't have my own images which could fit the theme.
Oh, and I simply uploaded them into my gallery and linked here, I'm just lazy like that. If someone wants to take something, please upload it on your own server.
And now, while I am writing a post I thought I may as well make an observation on the Quentyn/Oberyn issue. I notice people having an idea of a conflict between those two, reading some of the earlier posts. Frankly, I don't think it's so. Quentyn was send to fix the animosity that threatened to fester between the two families because of Oberyn's actions. His fostering by the Yronwoods is a sign of good intentions and an apology. It wouldn't do if her decided to be knighted *by* Oberyn. The Yronwoods could take it as a slight - he was treated by them as a family member and spurned his benefactor, Lord Yronwood, to be knighted at the hand of a man who killed the latter's father? Nah. I say it's politics and that there was no actual ill feelings between Quentyn and his uncle. They probably didn't know each other well and weren't close, true enough, but then Quentyn wasn't especially close to any of his family because of his fostering. I think he may be a bit bitter about *that* and we may read about it in ADwD, but then, he doesn't have to. Fostering sons by different knights seems like a common practice in Westeros.
Another thing is his mother. We know that Mellarion was bitter and decidedly angry with her husband for it and I think we can safely assume she blamed Oberyn for the rift between her husband and her and the general dissolution of her family.
Just saying ;) I thought it would be batter to do it here than in a year+ old topic.
Then again I am curious as to what do you think will happen with Quentyn. We know there will be a marriage/wedding in ADwD - I personally think it will be at the Dreadfort, as seen with Theon's eyes, but some people seem to think it will be Quentyn/Dany. As far as I am concerned, that would be brilliant but seems a bit to obvious and, well, 'happy' for GGM. He so likes to kill of his best characters (Oberyn.... grrr...) that I think the Quentyn chapter we are all so excited about may be simply him dying on his way to Dany, probably under the city itself in some absurd, ironical twist of fate. I mean, Quentyn and Dany getting together is simply to 'good' and just from the historical POV. They are both young (him being 5 years older at the most, and perhaps even a year younger than her), of royal blood (actually since there were marriages between the two houses in the past Quentyn has some 'blood of the dragon' in him while Dany has Nymeria's in her) and from what little we know of him/are suspecting it would be a wonderful match for any girl under the Sun (now, imagine him as a Doran/Oberyn mix and say you are not jealous of Dany, girls;p). So. I kind of doubt it is going to happen.
On a side note, if Dany married and fell in love with Quentyn that would create the right circumstances for some other spurned suitor to betray her 'for love'. My money are on Ser Jorah here.
