I know exactly what you mean by this idea right here, but I have never been able to phrase it in a way that feels right. Sometimes I think about this concept, and if I think about it too long I start to panic. It's like losing control, like I'll explode trying to absorb this idea. So I try not to think about it too much, because it's pretty intimidating, but it still frequently hits me with little reminders.
Maybe one day I'll acquire enough experience to be able to talk about this idea in a way it deserves. It's always fascinated me with its strangness.
PS I went bowling today and it was a lot of fun and I wanted to tell you but I really don't feel like texting right now derp.

Absolutely, that hits the nail on the head as to why we make characters. I think it plays a little bit into the stigma of making mary sues- having no imagination further than wanting to feel what life would be like if you were perfect and everyone loved you. :\
