In a nutshell, Hyosung appears to be a genuine upbeat, bubbly, determined and humble young woman with a girl-next-door image. And each and every event in her life has built her up to the capable leader that she is today. Her family weren't well off when she was younger, the whole family even doing the paper round together which she didn't mind doing - actually enjoyed the morning air. Her parents worked hard for her to stay in Seoul to follow her dream, her father even working while he wasn't fully recovered despite her protests. The death of her father, I would say, impacted her the most - as it would anyone - and more so the fact that she hadn't really gotten the chance to say goodbye, being in Seoul. Then being let go my Good Entertainment due to financial reasons, she's mentioned in interviews that at that point she felt maybe she should give up and continue with school instead but she didn't, she worked even harder as she saw people she knew (Battle whom also came out of Battle Shinhwa, Yoobin in Wonder Girls, Soohyung in Ukiss,) debuting before her which shows her determination to achieve her dream.
She wears her heart on her sleeve, some people have claimed the fact that she generally cries whenever they win awards of any sort as attention-seeking but personally, I feel it's more that she feels that she's finally making her parents proud. She's caring and heartwarming, which can be seen at multiple times but a recent example was when she comforted Kim Minji when she stepped down as host of Music Bank - while the fellow host and Hyunjoong stood there awkwardly.
She's humble. On countless occasions, she's denied being a good leader to which the other girls have said that she is. On ranking the looks of the group in an interview, she ranked herself last, claiming that there wasn't anything all that special about herself. And despite everything, she doesn't think that she's sexy.
Hyosung doesn't appear to be awkward around the opposite sex and is relatively unphased when other's mention her as their ideal girl - on Oh My School when Kikwang told every one that she was his new ideal girl, she continued on to act like nothing happened and even around Jinon's obvious fanboying or even whenever Joon claims that she likes him. It's this charm which I'd say makes her attractive to people and that she appears to be easy to get along with regardless of the age or gender.
