Earlier today my mother posted an FDR quote on Facebook: "Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting."
So naturally I replied, "Spoken at a time when most black people didn't have the legal right to vote." Given that several members of ( Read more... )

Morton is voting for the Green candidate again this year. Their candidate is Jill Stein. I am ashamed to admit I'll probably vote for Obama because I submit to extortion (Mitt would probably be worse) and accept the crumbs tossed from the table to the Federal program I work for and so forth.

The existence of my job also depends on Federal funding, albeit more indirectly. (Basically, if the Federal research funding agencies didn't have a few crumbs to toss in the direction of faculty at small colleges, it's doubtful that my boss or his higher-ups could justify most of what I do.) But when I look at the big picture, I recognize that my job shouldn't exist. If the changes I desire come about, I'll have to find a better use for my skills, and I'm fine with that.
The difference is that your job is one that should exist, on a much larger scale, with more people doing it and better training and more resources--but that will never be the case under capitalist rule.
