Joining the party late (sorry!) and thanks for a very insightful discussion.
I'm no shrink but it smacked of 'say it until it's true'
But isn't that what he usually does? I mean, that's the way Booth works. For someone with his history, the way you make a good life for yourself is by wishing hard enough for it to actually happen and turning a blind eye to what's not really working. He did it with Brennan for six years or so - it's this personality trait that what made him persist for so long in the idea that there was a future for them. (I'm happy he was sane enough to give up though after the 100th.) To get back to the point: he is clearly a case of 'say it until it's true' but not necessarily because of what he's been through with Brennan. He does it all the time. I think part of him really believes that if you wish for something hard enough, it's going to happen (and here's where Brennan has all the reasons to believe precisely the opposite).
she was basically telling him that it means nothing to love someone if you can fall
( ... )
I totally see them in a role-reversal here. Booth has taken on the role of Brennan in being in control of his feelings and emotions (or so he thinks, I reserve the right to point out his failure there at a future date) and therefore moved on when he decided to move on. Brennan is the one that now seems to believe that feelings are not things that can be controlled - they change and grow at will. Very interesting for these characters.
I also feel heart-crushed for Brennan - and it was the exact same line that got me - the inflection in her voice when she said that her life was as she expected - Oh wow... there was almost a tiny tremor or catch... it killed me
( ... )
A tiny part of me wants her to meet someone fab too! It's my "girl solidarity" coming out - I don't want her to pine for Booth while he's all in love with someone else!
