Idea du Jour: Space Opera, two tenors
A space opera that is actually an opera. (This is tough to Google, because of the prevalence of the term "space opera".)
I mean, let's avoid the easy out: an opera set on the ISS (also, it would be tough to do the weightlessness). I also pass on doing The Right Stuff as an opera.

A really stupid writing idea
A certain number of my stories peter out because I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I can't remember what interested me about the story, I don't know what someone is trying to achieve, whatever. You often get three pages of ostensibly witty banter but nothing happening, let alone text that fulfills two or three or four purposes (such as "reveals ( Read more... ) -

Made obsolete by technology
There should be a list of plot problems that don't happen any more because of modern technology. This would help older writers of SF tremendously. At least then the writer would have to explain why that wouldn't work. The list could be general or specific:

Idea du Jour: Airsharks
So at this sf reading thing, there was this surrealist painting with sharks swimming amongst a deciduous forest, with lines of fire tracking along the ground. And since I was sitting right next to the painting, I spent an inordinate amount of time thinking about it.
