This friend has damanded to remain anonymous and is staring over my shoulder, hence I will not slip his name in. But you will shit yourselves laughing. Here it goes:

I find myself becoming irritated with my neighbors to the immediate West once again. It seems that those God-bothering, barbecue-swilling, fake-twanging, chinless, inbred, cattle- ( Read more... )

this dude is a master of the rant. BA in journalism from Old Miss. he's great with the mental imagery, and is truly gifted at writing about various sorts of hedonistic debauchery. I'm trying to get him to write a book about something. you know, get published, make a shit-ton of money, and never have to worry about being able to make bills again.

and you 2 would make a great team. Writing, like everything else artistic, is all about creating mental imagery in your head, that's what inspires the words. You must do this occasionally yourself, even though you might not be consciously aware you're doing it. Heck, you could pull some of your lj comments and slip them right in a book. And I'll tell ya if ya don't already know, lots of editing is very often the key to writing a book. Get shit down on paper, arrange it later. I believe the 2 of you together have the potential to make a guy like Hunter Thompson squirm, Jack Kerouac be proud ( ... )

yes thats the way I've always written. I'm more tactile oriented in terms of mental processes...I think in impressions. That tends to translate well into writing if you can match it with a descriptive vocabulary. the way I thought we could do it is to take turns writing chapters and then add to and edit each others chapters. combining the respective styles and strengths we could flesh out a pretty damn good book. It would be a fun project anyway.

He is not the only brilliant writer I know. there is my friend Robert, for example, who lives in slidell to the north of the city. Absolute genius. No self-confidence and a crippling fear of rejection. So the people I know with the potential to make it big, to submit something and make a fortune off of it, either lack the confidence or the motivation or the general will to try. Even if I'm never considered worthy of publication on my own, I'll feel like I achieved something if I manage to get one of these guys discovered by a major publishing company.
