If you don't privatize or friends lock (flock or f-lock) your messages, they are available to the world.

You can set up groups for friends, and then send out a custom message so that only some people on your friends list (flist or f-list) will see it.

If you mark them private, then only you can see them.

I see that you have figured out how to add us to your flist. That's a good start. And since the boys aren't around to help, just holler if you have more questions.
