Peter's sleep had been interrupted by nightmares. Ray's on the other hand, had barely come at all. There were too many questions circling in his head for him to get there- and unlike the last time this had happened to him, he knew damn well that there was no magic answer substitute waiting for him. Besides, look what had happened last time! He hadn't been able to see Venkman's face, but he knew that tone well enough. The Flash hadn't understood, but Venkman had- and had confirmed Ray's right to be horrified about the proton assault cannon.

That, however, was going to have to wait. Mike was still out there somewhere- and Ray thought he knew where. And maybe, just maybe, he could get the guy's attention for long enough to set things a little bit closer to right...

He slipped out of bed and dressed silently in the dark, taking the pole down to the ground floor.

Venkman finally got up when he couldn't get any more sleep. He was still troubled, and looked pretty haggard as he found his way to the kitchen for some coffee.

Which, of course, invoked one of the ancient laws of narrative tradition: surreptitious behavior from party A + accidental wakefulness from party B = detection of party A whether anyone intended it or not. The light spilling from the kitchen doorway caught Ray in mid-stride; he froze, eyes wide like a jacklighted deer's.

"You're up early," he said, unable to think of anything else.

"So are you," Venkman snarks a bit, though more out of fatigue than anything else. "What's your point?'

He sighs, "Just trying to get some coffee."
