GAMERS?!?

Those on my list that consider themselves to be gamers, technophiles, geeks, nerds, etc.  I want your opinions.  I have been hearing a lot about STEAM lately.  It is the gaming site from Valve.  It appears that you can log in and play games on there for a fee.  I am curious if I still need to install any software that will take up more critical ( Read more... )

Well i don't know if anyone else agree's with me, but i personally think steam is a joke, and should be killed, like NCsoft they have you by the nuts if something goes wrong, no matter whose at fault, but i also used to play CS before steam grabbed it, and saddly like many games now a day, there are too many "wanna-be" gamers that follow steam like a cult. if i were you, i'd stay away from steam outright, but to play devil's advocate it can be good if you find the right people, and have a good connection speed. don't know if that helps you, but thats my opinion ^_^

first.....been a while...how you doing?

second....I see that Conan is on it and right now my computer would probably vomit if I tried to install it. If I did Steam would I be able to play it without causing said vomit?

1st: i'm doing good, i'm no longer with the station, due to the internal crap going on there, 2nd: ... yeah it shouldn't "vomit" but it might act really sick and want to stay home from school to continue the analogy of being sick. LOL

oh an to answer your question, steam does take some power to run it, and it is safer to have a wall up, but as bad as bearshare or limewire.. not as bad but in the running, you did need to install their software on your machine, so if your low on space, i wouldn't try it.... now lets see if that helps lol

I use STEAM for Half-Life and Counter Strike. I have never had any problems with people connecting to my machine or anything like that. They do have a few free games, but many are pay and download types.

That's my experience, anyway. :)

No I have been reading about it on RPS and other such places. I just have been leary of putting anything new on my compy. I was hoping you would input. I almost called your name out specifically. :)

How much does it tax the system? Like if I get it and play Conan, would I have to download Conan to my machine or play through Steam?

Well, the point of Steam is that you can download and install your games from any computer you register it on. However, to play you have to log into Steam, and you cannot do this from multiple locations at the same time. But, upshot is you could install it on your home computer, go to work or a friend's, decide you want to play, install Steam on your laptop and download your game (granted it won't be fast because you're downloading the whole thing, but you get the idea).

Resource requirements are relatively minimal, background application. You download the games to your machine. You can purchase games on it. It will keep track of those purchases and allow you to download any of the games anywhere you install it. La. I love Steam.

Steam is a decent games manager. It doesn’t take up any noticeable amount of system resources and it makes managing and installing games very easy ( ... )
