Training in politics

I know quite a few of my friends eschew politics. Some just aren't interested; others feel the whole field is somehow "dirty" or "tainted" because scandals in politics get a lot of press, and are often frankly sordid ( Read more... )

I think one day I would be interested in going into politics. But right now I am not ready. But I think you will do very well in politics! And I am excited for you to enter into the fray!

I'm glad you're doing this. My dad & stepmom worked variously for the DNC, ran their own campaign strategy business for 15 years (electing some great folks and eventually not wanting to help elect not-great-folks) and worked in some administrations. They both now do training for specific groups just like you're describing, in the hope that it will help, from the ground up, to bring about better campaigns, better candidates, better government.
If you're ever up for talking about this more, we should get tea or lunch. In the meantime, go you for pursuing something you care about :)

I agree with you, all except the part where you feel as if you DO have the strength and stamina to deal with it all. I don't, at least not right now, but I'm thrilled that you do!

Huh. Neat. My primary reaction is "Go you!" (I consider politics well worth doing, and a necessary not-horribly evil until and unless we figure out the "Who's the right benevolent dictator?" question). But I'll also give voice to my secondary reaction below (not you specific--I'd reference this to any friend of mine going into politics, and try hard to keep it in mind myself if I did ( ... )
