On death and dying

So yesterday I spent my day at the Massachusetts Medical Society House of Delegates meeting. After the meeting (which was about half a day), there were a couple of continuing education talks. Sounds like a pretty intense day.

I didn't know about the either or choice re hospice care. That kind of sucks....

I'd like to talk to you about my dad and his hospital issues when you have the chance.... I need a calm, doctor perspective and advice as to what to do if you are willing. Matt has my contact info.

this is fascinating. I hate how polarizing it gets (as you say, the whole "death panel" discussion) when it really impacts everyone one way or another.

And yet, if you talk to sick people, in my experience they are far more afraid of pain and of being a burden to their loved ones than they are of actual death. If we could all know for sure that physicians would take our pain seriously and would prioritize it, people would be so much less afraid of death.
