My problem with the whole ID "versus" evolution "debate" is that people are mixing up science and theology/philosophy. Intelligent Design draws questions of why into the mix, while evolutionary theory has nothing to do with why evolution is happening, it simply notes that from everything we can tell, it is happening. There's nothing in evolutionary theory that says that evolution is or isn't a process being guided by some higher power. That isn't the role of science. Science and religion/spirituality explore two completely different aspects of the world around us, and the two do not mix well. Science is about explaining observable and quantifiable events. Religion and spirituality are about explaining that which isn't necessarily observable or measurable. Both sides of this so-called debate come at the argument hindered by tunnel vision. Whenever I hear anything from either side, I keep sitting there going, "Well, why can't it be both?"
