Let it go: chapter 9
Pairing: matsumiya

this brings us up to the present folks.
so after this, all new things!
enjoy!

Living with Jun was surprisingly easy. The man had a better TV then Nino did, so it made playing games easier, and he was a minimalist as far as things in the common area were concerned. In that way it was easy for Nino to not leave much of a footprint in the house, as he was still afraid that Jun could decide that he needed to pack up and move out one day, which would be quite sad. Things had progressed since he had moved in.

Nino was pleased when Ohno, during one of his many visits to check how things were developing, did not argue with Nino, snuggling with him - keeping him from snuggling with Jun. The look in the elders eye made Nino certain that he knew why Nino was snuggling with him on the couch. Both could sense Jun’s irritation at this fact; his irritation when Nino groped Ohno’s ass, partially to get Ohno to twitch, partially to get some reaction from Jun. Which he never did, not really. He would shift uneasily, his intense gaze focused on the pair. That was what spurred Nino one night to pull Jun into their snuggle on the couch. And to his absolute glee, Jun did not pull away.

Over time, it developed that even when Ohno was not there, Nino would lean into Jun when they were sitting on the couch watching a movie or would sit a little too close to him when they were playing video games. He would make sure that he was close enough to feel the others body heat, smell the slight scent of his body wash. And he noticed that Jun, on the other hand, would stand a little too close to him at times as well, brushing his hand accidentally against Nino’s as he reached for something. And once or twice, on a weekend when they were both free, they would awake tangled on the couch, the TV noise softly in the background. Neither would say anything, just looking at each other. Nino enjoyed the blush on Jun’s face in these moments. More than once he almost leaned over to kiss the other, but Jun would flee to the shower before Nino could do anything, leaving him too content and warm from the presence of the other on the couch to think of taking that step and just kissing him.

And then Jun got sick. The entire office could see the way that the man was trying to deny that he had a cold, but it was futile, especially when he was huddled in the office in a layer of sweaters, shivering. Nino was sure, as he passed Jun’s office, that he cold hear the others teeth rattling.

One morning, though, Nino went to work and Jun was not there. He paused to think about how his shoes had been still in the doorway that morning. Jun must be really sick to not come to work - a quick email to Nagase got him the rest of the day off, for personal reasons. Nagase had no reason to disagree, since Nino never asked for time off, and in this case he was glad. It would give him a chance to do something for Jun, since the other was always doing something for him.

Opening the door to Jun’s room, he could see that the other was sort of awake and aware. Pushing the door open he slid inside. “You finally gave in, huh?” Nino’s voice was soft as he sat on the edge of the bed, setting a glass of water down on the bedside table. He drew in a sharp breath as he laid a hand on Jun’s forehead. “You are burning up, Jun-pon. Here, sit up an take these.” Nino’s voice was as soft and soothing as he could make it. He was worried though, Jun’s fever was quite high, higher than he would like.

Jun’s lack of response was equally alarming, so he shifted, wrapping his arms around Jun and pulled him up so he was sitting, pressing pills into his hand no seconds later. They would help with the fever. Jun looked at them for a moment, then lifted them to his mouth, slipping them in as Nino handed him the glass of water. Nino frowned at the heat that his body was radiating and the way his arm shook as he held the glass. Jun was weak. It was alarming to see the other this vulnerable, Jun was always sure and in command of himself, this was not something that made Nino happy to observe.

“If you do not get better soon, Jun, I am dragging you to the hospital. This is dangerous.” Nino muttered, tucking Jun back in after taking the glass of water and placing it beside the bed.

“Illbefine.” Jun muttered, shivering from the fever as Nino’s hands pushed the blankets tight around him. Nino placed a cool pack on his forehead, glad the other could not see him frowning in worry.

He did not like seeing Jun like this at all.

“You better be.” Nino mutter as he stood before padding out of the room, leaving the door open behind him. After cooking something light for Jun, Nino padded back into is room, placing a hand lightly against Jun’s cheek. His fever seemed to have gone down, but it was still too high.  And so Nino pulled up a chair, intending to just watch Jun, making certain that his fever broke. With a fever this high he should have him taken the other to the hospital, and if he did not get better soon then he would, but Jun seemed to be sleeping well, cooling off some.
What Nino did not intend was to fall asleep, which he realized that he had when he felt the bed shifting under him. Out of reflex, Nino’s hand went to Jun’s forehead, smiling.

“Feverish still, but better.” His voice was hoarse from disuse and Jun nodded as he sat up.  “There is some broth for you in the fridge, Jun-pon, I made some while you were sleeping, as well as some rice. Take it easy, alright?” Nino shifted, standing in front of Jun as the other stood up, shaking slightly from the disuse of his muscles all the day. Nino hovered close, making sure that he did not have to catch the other if he fell. But he did not, so Nino did not have to be the white knight, at least not more than he already was for taking care of Jun and nursing him back to health.

“Thank you, Nino.” Jun’s voice was soft and Nino nodded shifting for a moment to place a quick kiss on Jun’s forehead. He was not sure why he did it, and he was certain that he was blushing, but he spoke anyways.

“Mom always said that it would help with the fever,” Nino said and moved towards the door, making an escape.

Which was a lie, is mom had not said anything of the sort, but to kiss Jun, even in a platonic fashion when the other was sick…. It was not right but Nino had, and would do it again, if he thought he could get away with it.

Nino froze when he heard Jun’s soft reply, one that he was sure he was not supposed to hear.

“Try that again when I am not sick.”

YES! Nino could not help but think and he turned around with a wink.

“Are you sure, Jun-pon. Perhaps it is the fever talking. I was beginning to think that you didn’t want me. After all, I complimented your hips and everything and all I get in return is a bento.” Nino wondered if  Jun could see the uncertainty beneath the teasing. Nino hated being vulnerable, but it seemed that was one of the only ways that he could get through to Jun. He had been opening up to him, offering him small bits of himself and so far Jun had not pushed him away.

“Anyone who can call Sho sloping shoulders-san into his face is worth keeping around. Besides, I don’t say things I don’t mean.” Jun wrinkled his nose. “I cannot believe that you kissed my forehead. I am disgusting with sickness and sweat.”

Nino nodded. “I was trying to be polite and not comment on it, but you are rather ripe. I will forgive you for that one though.” Nino could not help but tease, relieved that Jun seemed to be receptive to more kisses in the future. This was certainly something that he could work with, and something that brought a huge smile to his face.

“Brat.” Jun commented, “Go to bed, I don’t want to have to nurse you back to help if you catch whatever it is that I have.”

“But I would have such a cute nurse. I am sure that you would look good in a nurse outfit, Jun-pon.” Nino called after him and though Nino could not help but cackle as Jun twitched.

Oh yes, more kisses were going to happen.

And they did, not as soon as Nino would have liked. Jun being out of the office resulted in all sorts of, as Nino considered them, unnecessary crises. And when an intern took the last coffee Nino knew that it would be a bad day. It was the one thing Jun had been firm about when Nino moved in. Take the last of the coffee and there will be hell to pay. And so, being the wonderful helpful person that he was, Nino went and got Jun coffee, good coffee, for a nearby coffee shop. It was overpriced but he knew that Jun liked it.

Nino pulled the door close behind him as he entered Jun’s office.

“It seems like you needed this, as much as I love seeing interns leave the building in tears,” was what Nino said, motioning to the coffee. He was settled on the edge of Jun’s desk and Jun glared at him.

Oh yes, kisses. It was about time that there was more of those, and glaring Jun was just too adorable. Nino knew what would bring a smile to the others face. A kiss.

“You also need this.” Nino commented lightly, his voice soft, leaning forward to gently grab Jun’s tie. He pulled Jun forward, his lips brushing against Jun’s in a light kiss, their first kiss ever. The forehead kiss when Jun was sick did not count.

“Do I?” Jun asked against Nino’s lips and the other nodded, pulling Jun in for another kiss, lips brushing against the others. It was not a sexy kiss, more sweet and shy than anything, but Jun reveled in it, the feel of the others thin lips against his own. Jun brought a hand up to lace a hand loosely though Nino’s hair but he did nothing to deepen the kiss.

Nino was quite pleased that he had not been fired so far; and as he broke the kiss, he rested his forehead against Jun’s, smiling at the man.

“What was that for? I wasn’t sure that-“ Jun started and Nino chuckled, shaking his head.

“I had to pay money for your coffee Jun. Money. You know how much I hate that.”

“So it was payment then.”

“Not payment, reward. I have been a good boy after all.” Nino’s voice was light and he smiled at Jun. Jun smiled in return.

“I am not sure that this is appropriate behavior, but you are good.” Jun commented before leaning back in his chair, his tie slipping from Nino’s grip. “As much as I would like to continue, this is neither the time or the place and…” His voice trailed off as a knock sounded on the door and Nino nodded, loving the way that Jun’s tongue darted out to lick his lips.

“Work is work, I know, Jun-pon.” Nino chimed. “Our new department report is also with the coffee, just so you know. Naga-nii-chan is pleased with this one, so he expects to hear good things from you.” Nino commented as he opened the door, nodding to Sho, winking as he passed by.

Kissing Jun was something that he would get used to.

Jun worked too much, but deadlines were deadlines, and he wondered if Sho TRIED to schedule everything so it was due at once. Jun was far to stressed and Nino did not think that during this time with his tension at max would be the best time to make moves on Jun, though perhaps a nice sexual encounter would relax the man somehow, goodness knows he needed it.

So Nino took care of Jun in the only way he knew. He brought him food, coffee and kisses. He liked the kisses, but wished they were more than just quick discreet pecks or a brush of lips across a cheek. He was infinitely pleased though when Jun FINALLY took some initiative and pulled him down for a kiss. Jun finally taking some sort of initiative, put the idea into Nino’s head. It was for that reason that he called Ohno, outlining out the idea of an art project to him, as a way to confess to Jun.

“I want to do something special for him, something that will mean something,” Nino had explained and Ohno agreed to help, saying that he would be in town in a week or so, since he had an art show coming up. Nino could use his space then.

And so, when Jun and Sho were in Okinawa for work, Nino started with the project, taking a trip with Ohno to the ryokan, taking pictures of the space so he would have something for reference. But painting and art was a lot harder than it looked and Nino was already exhausted, just after a few days, but he had sworn to himself, and to Ohno, that he would have it done in time for Ohno’ show. Ohno looked pleased by this.

Ohno sometimes hinted that the sooner Nino confessed the better, but Nino could not see why that would matter. Jun as not going anywhere.

When Jun stopped him, the night that he returned home, by the door and said that he needed to talk, Nino felt as if he was going to be ill. Jun looked so serious, like something was bothering him, not in a I Am Nervous and Need To Confess To You kind of way. In the I Am Going To Tell You Something That You Do Not Want To Hear way. Whatever it was, Nino was not sure that he wanted to hear it, at least not until he had confessed properly to Jun. Then, if Jun wanted to break things off, or kick him out, he could, but at least he would know, how Nino felt.

“Of course, I will let you know when I am free,” He had replied, knowing full well that he could not be free until after Ohno’s show. He had a bad feeling about this, but he was going to finish what he started, he needed to. He did not want to lose Jun, not when he was this close to actually have him.

Nino felt bad when Jun would call, asking if he was free and his answer was always, “Sorry, can’t, which Oh-chan.” He was always with him, in the studio, painting. It was turning out well, much better than either of them thought that it would. He wasn’t trying to avoid Jun, and yet, he was, since he did not want to face him, not without some proof of his affections.

When Jun snapped at him one day, telling him to make sure that he finished his work projects if he had time to help his brother, Nino knew that he was on thin ice. Jun’s patience was wearing thin. So Nino worked longer during the day and stayed longer at Ohno’s at night, trying to finish. He was not sleeping, not really, but he would meet the deadline that Jun set for him, and he would meet the deadline that he set for himself.

When Jun approached him at work, Nino was on his way out. The show was in a week and his project was no where near done. Nino was beginning to panic.

“Ah, Nino, I guess you are leaving?” Jun leaned against the opening to Nino’s cubicle and the other paused. Jun looked really good that day, very good, his clothing fit in all the right ways, and if they were not still in an office full of people he would have pulled the other man to him for a kiss.

“Ah, Jun-kun.” Nino paused, “I am sorry that I have been so busy lately, between work and helping Oh-chan with his project I just haven’t had the time to talk.” Nino paused. “I promised him that I would help and its been taking up all of my time. I will be free, once his show is done, if you still want to talk then.” Nino’s smile was wide and earnest. He did want to talk to Jun, and he did not want the other to feel as if he was being ignored, since he wasn’t ignoring him, he just really did not have time.

“I was hoping that we could talk sooner than that, it is important.” Jun’s voice was soft.

Nino nodded. “I know, and I am sorry. I do want to.”

“There is no way?” Jun asked and Nino shook his head.

“I am sorry, Jun.” He moved to walk past Jun and paused, looking at Jun with narrowed eyes, something was off, he was certain of it. “Is something wrong, Jun-pon? You look unusually serious.”

“It is nothing, not really.” Jun lied, Nino could tell that much. The tension in his frame, the slight furrowing of his brows. Something was wrong. “There is a lot on my mind in relation to the branch in Okinawa that is opening soon and-“ Jun smiled at Nino. “It is nothing that I will bother you with. Go help Satoshi-nii-chan. It is good that he had found someone that can support him like this in all of his endeavors.” Jun turned to go, but Nino stepped up behind him, his hand brushing across his back.

“Jun, it is just another few weeks, I am not going anywhere, and-“ Nino paused, his voice lowered, so only Jun could hear it. “If you need anything, I am here, Jun. We both are.”

“What I need is to talk, but you have made it clear that can’t happen.” Jun snapped and Nino watched him go. What was wrong with the him? Nino knew that he was not making time for him, but how could he, with so much to do, and something so important to do?

Just another week, and it would all be clear.
