A shout out to thoroughlynerdy for brainstorming this with me, and for the title.

Jun realized, in retrospect, that he should have been very very wary of how happy Nakai was when he agreed to take over the Arashi division of Johnny’s Publishing Company that something was not right. But Johnny had hand picked Jun to take over the division, giving Nakai a much needed break, and Jun could not say no to Johnny, or the promotion. Mostly the promotion. He knew everyone in the division, heck he was friends with all of them outside of work, so really it could not be that bad.

Except that it was.

It was much worse than he even could have imagined.

Trying to get them to produce anything was… a struggle… to put it nicely, and Jun wondered how before he had come to the division they had stayed employed.

Their division was in the back corner of the fifth floor of the company. They had their own room to themselves, four cubicles for each of the writers (Ohno, Aiba, Ninomiya and Sakurai) and a small office for their director (Jun). Jun took a steadying breath before he opened the door to his office to step out into the cubicles. Today was deadline day, and he knew that he would be at the bar later, drinking with his friend Shun, bitching about these four, since getting anything from them that they could publish was hard. Very hard. Thankfully Jun was still writing as well, one of the stipulations of the job, so at least the division was still publishing, and the Arashi imprint was still the best seller of the company, much more so than the Tokio or Kanjani imprints. No division under his direction was going to be anything less than the best.

As Jun stepped into the work area, he could hear the chaos, and was once again grateful that his door closed. Otherwise, he would not be able to get any work done. His first stop was Sakurai’s desk, as it was the closest one to his office.

“Already?” Sakurai commented, and Jun just nodded, tapping his foot impatiently.

“Stories are due at the same time every week, Sakurai. You know that. Last weeks looked promising as far as plot goes, so I am eager to see how the romance progressed.” Jun commented lightly and he could hear Sakurai sigh, even as he printed off his current work in progress.

“I hope that it is up to your expectations.”  Jun could hear the waver in Sakurai’s voice and was not certain that he managed to suppress his eye roll as he took the paper, quickly scanning over the work that Sakurai had managed since the week before.

Several things caught his eye, and it was not in a this is amazing and moving, or sexy as hell and will get the readers hot and bothered kind of way.

The proof of his masculinity stood proud between them, a rod of pleasure meant to invade her sactum.

He could not contain his moan of pleasure as his staff breached the castle walls

His fingers brushed against her pleasure pearl

His essence spilled into her inner sanctum and it was as if the castle was crumbling around him

“Sakurai…” Jun’s voice was soft as he placed the papers back on the printer, face down, and he heard more than saw the other turn to look at him.

“Yes, Matsumoto-san?” His voice was steady, but timid, and now Jun knew why.

“Have you even published anything with the company before?”

“Uhm, no sir. After graduation this was my first job. This will be my first work.”

“And what was the degree in?”

“Economics.”

“Economics… I see. Have you read anything by the company before?” His voice was light, conversational, and he could see Ninomiya peaking out over the top of his own cubicle, grinning and watching, though as Jun sent a glare at him he disappeared back into his desk.

“Of course. I particularly like the works of Matsu Junnosuke. One day I hope to be able to write that well. I think I am doing quite well so far at imitating the style.”

While Jun was pleased to hear that Sakuai liked his works, though Jun still thought the pen name was ridiculous, he was surprised that Sakruai did not realize that Matsu Junnosuke was Jun. Ninomiya obviously did, if the snickering from his cubicle at Sakruai’s confession was any indication. Jun was NOT pleased to hear that Sakrai thought he was doing a good job emulating Jun’s style. Jun would never write something that…. Horrid…. And there was no way that the Arashi label was going on it. It would be not associated with him.

“Sakurai, perhaps you should do a little bit of research. Go have some sex or something. Reading this, the terminology is all wrong, and it feels as it you were writing it based on a manual. There is no way that our readers will feel moved by this, and it is not something that I can put out under the Arashi label.”

“But, but-“ Sakura stammered, turning red. “Sex?” He squeaked, and Jun nodded.

“Sex. The best way to get the feel for the pacing of a sex scene, and the timing, is to do a little research on the subject. If you do not know what it feel like, how can you expect to convince the readers that you are an expert on it?” Jun asked, and with that he was off to the next cubicle, Aiba Masaki.

He did not have much hope with this one, as Aiba spent much of his work hours researching new and exciting fringes of sexual experimentation, and seeing if there were ways to write those into his novels. It was a niche market, one that if done right would propel the Arashi division even higher on the sales chart, the problem was that Aiba spent more time researching, and purchasing, and giggling as the things were delivered to the office, and then disappearing with them (Jun was certain that Aiba’s house was filled with toys and things) after work hours that Jun did not think that he had gotten anything written.

Which is why he was surprised when the man, all smiles and sunshine, handed him a manuscript as he came over.

“I finally found something to write about, MatsuJun.” He beamed at Jun, and Jun could not help but smile back, even though he was cringing internally at that damned nickname. He hated it. A lot.

Jun read what was handed to him, and looked to Aiba, in what he was certain was shocked disbelief.

“I know, isn’t it great? A lot of research went into this.” Aiba settled back into his chair, spinning around in it, and Jun looked back down to the story.

He could not believe his luck as his best friends mother answered the door, wearing the shortest and sheerest bathrobe that he had ever seen.

“Kei-kun isn’t home right now, but I don’t think that will be an issue. Would you  like to come inside?” Her voice was a husky purr, and he could not believe his luck. He had always had the hots for Kei’s mom, but this, this was something that he could not believe. He could see the huge breasts, as the robe left nothing to his imagination, and he was certain that soon he would be titty fucking a super hot MILF. It was the final frontier, one that he thought he would never he able to achieve.

“The final frontier?”  Jun managed to choke out, and Aiba grinned.

“Oh-chan and I watched a lot of MILF porn to find inspiration for this one.” Aiba paused and glanced to the cube next to him. “I still wish I knew where the MILF porn that I lent Sho-kun went. It was a classic, and I cannot find it again. What kind of friend looses your porn? Especially MILF porn. It’s a tragedy.”

“I said I was sorry about that!” Sakurai called back, and Jun was certain that he heard Ninomiya cackling from the farthest cubicle over. “Mom was coming over, and so I put it away someplace safe so she wouldn’t find it-“

“And you have never been able to find it again, Sho-kun.” Aiba called back without heat. “Do you think that we can use this, MatsuJun?”

“I-“ Jun paused, looking at the hopeful way that Aiba was looking up at him. “I think that it would work better as a graphic novel then a novel, but you would need someone to illustrate it, and see if Johnny-san approves the new endeavor. I just don’t think your style in this story is suited to the novel format.” Jun answered and Aiba beamed.

“Oh-chan could illustrate it. He had been doing a lot of the cover art, but he is also really good at drawing people, aren’t you  Oh-chan?” Aiba did not wait for a response. “He had been doing a lot of human anatomy recently-“

Jun was certain he hear Ninomiya ask Ohno is that was what the kids were calling it these days, and he was glad that he could not hear the answer

“And I think that it would work. Can you schedule the meeting with Johnny-san for me? He will be much more likely to accept it if it is coming from MatsuJun, and you have always been successful with your ideas for the company in the past.” Aiba was so enthusiastic, so hopeful, that Jun could not help but nod.

It might actually work as a business model.

Next was Ohno, whom he was not surprised to find drawing. What he was surprised was to see pictures drawn of Aiba all over Ohno’s desk.

“Ohno-san?” Jun asked quietly, and Ohno paused his drawing only for a moment, to glance at the far corner of his desk, where Jun saw a pile of sketches that he knew was the concept art for the novels as he had been expecting. He did not need to look at it to know that it would be acceptable.

“Ohno-san, is this-“ Jun trailed off, not sure how to properly ask why Ohno was drawing Aiba, and a naked Aiba at that. (Jun was also trying his best not to look too much at the anatomical correctness of the pictures, and certainly trying not to wonder if if was a true to life size representation since he really did NOT need to go there)

“Aiba’s birthmark is really distracting. So I decided to draw it.”

“I see.” Was all Jun stated before quickly escaping that cubicle. Somethings he just did NOT need to know.

Last was Ninomiya, his only chance at getting something good out of that weeks work. Which was sad, since Ninomiya spent most of the day playing video games.

“It is on the printer, Jun-pon.” Ninomiya called out as Jun turned the corner and Jun growled his response.

“How many times have I told you not to call me that, Ninomiya.”

Ninomiya did not turn away from his video game to look at Jun, but Jun knew that the other was grinning widely. “I have a new story idea printed out for you. Read it and let me know what you think. I am going a new direction with my novel this time.” Nino’s voice was serious, and Jun nodded, picking up the papers and beginning to read them.

Forbidden Inter Office Romance, a boy love novel.

“Boy love?” Jun questioned and Nino nodded.

“It is something that none of the other imprints are doing, but it is very popular with the women these days. All of the fanfiction sites for any of the major shows and bands are filled with it. So I thought we would want to capitalize on that now. If nothing else, I thought that we could collaborate on it. I think that you style is particularly suited to this, Jun-pon.” Nino spun in his chair, a Cheshire smirk on his face and Jun looked at him, searching for a motive.

When he could not find an obvious one he turned the page, reading the story idea.

This is a story of a forbidden romance between the frazzled mangaka and the artist that drawns for him, but much prefers to play video games and tease him. J is unaware that Neen had been flirting with him, and so the artist stoops to drastic measures to make it clear that he wants the most intimate type of collaboration with the mangaka possible. The problem, office romance at the Storm Imprint was strictly forbidden, but Neen was certain that it would be worth the risk.

“Ninomiya….” Jun spoke nothing but the others name, and Ninomiya grinned up at him.

“Read it, and let me know what you think of the collaboration. There are a few scenes in there that I think you will like, but I am sure that some of the finer points need your input.” Nino turned back to his game and Jun could not help but stare at the paper in his hands.

Did Ninomiya write a boylove novel as an attempt to catch his interest?

This was certainly worth reading, Jun was quite curious.

When he returned the manuscript many hours later, there was a note written on the paper itself

“I think that this collaboration has a lot of potential. I will pitch the boy love idea to Johnny myself”

as well as a post it note.

“All you had to do was ask, Ninomiya, but there certainly are some interesting things in this that need to be researched, in detail. For the sake of the story.”

And Jun could not help but smile to himself, when he could hear Ninomiyas shout of victory, even through the closed door of his office. Today had not been a wasted day, it was a nice change.
