Rings, necklaces, and sometimes bracelets and wrist cuffs were for the most part the only say that any of the members had when it came to their wardrobes. Jun took the most advantage of this, but Ohno and Sho could be found wearing necklaces, and more recently rings. Ohno especially found it fun to go through Jun’s rings, and wear one, making sure to flash his hands on TV, so the glint of a chunky silver ring could be seen.
It pleased Jun to see his rings on Riida’s hands on television, it felt like they were sharing a secret, something between him and Riida, but Jun was certain that the others knew, but were choosing not to comment on it. At least that was what he hoped it was. Six years was a long time for them not to notice, but with the affection that was easily passed around Arashi, who knew.
They were getting ready to do a shoot for a magazine that day, and Jun was running later than he would like. When he was about to enter their green room, he could hear Nino, Aiba and Sho talking in quiet tones, and he had hung outside the door for a moment, listening to them.
“So, does either of you two know what is going on between Jun and Oh-chan?” It was Nino who voiced the question, and silence was the only answer. Jun assumed the other two were shaking their heads, but he could not be sure.
“If they are dating, it is not so obvious to me.” He could hear Sho sigh. “This is not a bad thing. I see enough with the Ohmiya SK, I don’t need to see Jun and Satoshi going at it as well.” Something about Sho’s tone made Jun frown. He was almost… despondent.
Jun could hear Aiba’s laughter in response, and was certain that Nino’s lips were quirked in a grin.
“Riida has been wearing a lot of rings these days. And he is napping on Jun’s shoulder as often as he is snuggling with Nino.” Aiba commented and Sho hummed.
“That has been going on for longer than the rings.” Nino commented. “Jun has always admired Riida though…” Nino trailed off in thought.
“Not as long as Jun has idolized Sho-chan though!” Aiba chirped, and Jun cringed at the comment, and he was sure that Sho did as well. “I am sure that Sho-chan will always be first for Jun.” Aiba chimed, and it was at that moment that Jun chose to walk through the door, and he was pleased to see the three jump apart, looking guilty. Jun was certain that his face was schooled into neutrality though, and he looked around the room at the three.
“Is something wrong?” Jun asked, looking at the nervous way they watched him, and they all shook their heads, quickly, denying that anything was wrong.
“Are you sure? You all look…” Jun paused, searching for the word. “Unsettled.” Was the word that he decided on, and he bit in his laughter again at the instant denials from the other three.
“Well, I just stopped in to see if anyone wanted anything from the vending machine. I was going to go get something, since it will be a long shoot.” Jun looked around, and Aiba nodded. “I will go with Jun-chan. I am really thirsty, but I don’t know what I want.” Aiba laughed sheepishly, and Jun cold see Sho’s eyes widen slightly, and Nino stiffen. If he wasn’t looking for it, he would not have noticed.
“Sure.” Jun turned, walking out of the room, and ran into Ohno as he did so.
“Sorry Riida.” Jun’s words were soft as he stumbled away, Ohno’s hands gentle on his arms as he steadied the younger, keeping him from falling over. Jun could feel the cold press of his rings on Ohno’s fingers against the skin on his arms. Jun flashed Ohno a smile, albeit a weak one and the other looked to Jun in question for a moment, before the sleepy look returned.
“S’ok.” Ohno commented, moving into the room, leaving Jun to walk with Aiba.
They walked down the hall in silence, and Jun waited for Aiba to speak, knowing that the elder wanted to speak to him about something.
“Hey, Jun…” Aiba trailed off waiting for the other to speak, and Jun stopped walking, looking to Aiba.
“What is it, Masaki?”
“I-I wondered what you thought of Sho-chan.”
“Sho?” Jun repeated, slowly, and Aiba nodded.
This would explain why Sho and Nino both looked alarmed that Aiba was coming to talk to him.
“Sho is a very good friend, and talented caster. I admire him, always have,” Jun answered, and started walking again, towards the vending machines. Aiba hurried to follow Jun, his hands shoved in his pockets.
“But once you-“
Aiba stopped speaking as Jun stopped, looking to Aiba with narrowed eyes.
“You know as well as I do that Sho made it very clear that he wanted none of that kind of attention from me, and that anything other than admiration was unwelcomed. I am not sure what kind of game you are trying to play at Aiba, but it has been a long time since I have felt anything for Sho other than camaraderie.” Jun started walking again, steps quick, eyes brows drawn together in irritation, and the hallways cleared before him. People avoided Jun when he was visibly that angry, and despite the fact that Aiba hurried along beside him, those people whom Jun passed in the hallway wished to avoid any confrontation with the youngest Arashi member.
“I just-“Aiba started, and Jun shook his head, not looking to Aiba.
“Drop it, Masaki.” Jun put his money into the machine and retrieved his coffee, waiting while Aiba fumbled for his own change, and also bought a coffee. Jun managed not to stalk into the green room, and when he and Aiba returned, it was just Ohno waiting for them.
“They wanted to get Sho and Nino started in hair and makeup. They will be by for us in a little bit.” Ohno mumbled as the pair walked in and Jun nodded, walking to his bag. Tossing his newly purchased coffee in it, the can landed beside a small box, silver in color with blue and purple ribbons tied around it. Rummaging through the bag, he pulled out his cigarettes. They were more important than presents in his bag.
“I am going to smoke.” Jun swiftly left the room, taking deep breaths and trying to steady his emotions.
Why did Sho decide now of all times that he was interested in Jun?
And why did it bother Jun?
He had not lied when he said that it had been a long time since he had thought of Sho as anything other than a friend, and yet… perhaps he was still not quite over it. There was a problem with that in so many ways. Considering the current state of things on top of that the fact that Nino, Sho, and Aiba were planning to do something.
Jun did not turn as he heard shuffling footsteps coming up behind him, and he did not jump as head, then body nuzzled its way between his arms, so the figure could stand snuggled up against his side, head resting on his shoulder.
“You left the box when you stormed out of the room.” Were the first words that were spoken and Jun nodded, taking a drag of his cigarette.
“Did you get Masaki to tell you exactly why I am upset?” Jun asked, and Ohno nodded.
“I want to hear from you though.”
“They were talking about us. Trying to figure out what is going on. They seem to think that it is nothing and-“
“Does it matter what they thing, Jun? It does not change what we know.”
“And then Masaki told Sho that he was certain that Sho was still first in my affections, and when we were on the way to coffee he asked if I still cared for Sho like that and-“Jun stopped, his voice choked, tight, and Ohno hmmed. Jun did not speak any more, for if he did, he was going to cry, and he could not, would not, cry right now.
“Jun still hurts, huh?” His words were soft, and Jun did not answer, taking a shaky drag from his cigarette before tossing it aside. “Jun never had a chance to heal from that, to talk with Sho about it and work through things. Those feelings of hurt and rejection are still raw.” Ohno shifted, so he looked up at Jun, his back against the railing that Jun leaned on, Jun’s arms on either side of him.
“I told you that I would help you through this, Jun, and I mean it.”
“It is not fair to you, though. You should not have to deal with me getting over him, still, when I am over him and-“Ohno placed a finger on Jun’s lips.
“I was not done speaking, Jun. You know better than to interrupt.” His words were sharp, and Jun nodded, dropping his gaze to the ground, staring at their feet, and entwined shadows on the floor. He really did know better than to speak before Ohno was done, they had discussed this time and time again.
“You loved Sho, I am alright with that. I started this with you knowing that you were still hurting from that. But I also know that you love me, not him.” Ohno reached up towards Jun’s neck, toying with the necklace there. Still Jun did not look at Ohno, just let him talk. Ohno could be surprisingly talkative, when he had something that he wanted to say. It just was not often that he had something that he wished to say.
“I remember when I gave you this one. It was right before your AnAn shoot. As a reminder that while you might be doing a naked shoot with a pretty model, I was the one you were coming home to that night.”
“I still do, when our schedules allow it.” Jun’s reply was soft, and Ohno nodded.
“I know Jun best, better than you know yourself, I think. And I know that it hurt, but you cannot take it out on Sho, or Aiba. Or even Nino.” Ohno handed Jun the package with a small smile. “If anyone, take it out on me. We are in this together, and I will be with Jun no matter what his mood. Rant and rage and stay angry at me as long as you want. When it is all out of your system, then you can move on.” Ohno paused. “Open it; I got you a new one.”
Jun looked at Ohno, then to the box, and then Ohno again. Ohno only glanced at Jun he knew that Jun liked necklaces when he was going to be upset or needed reassurance about something.
“You knew this was going to happen then, Satoshi?” Jun questioned, and Ohno just looked at him, his gaze steady as he reached up and unfastened the necklace that Jun wore, slipping it into his own pocket.
“I show them in my own way that you are mine, Jun. Just because they choose not to see it does not mean that it is not real.” Ohno waited for Jun to open the box, and saw him smile at the necklace. It was a skull, with tiny blue jewels as eyes, on a silver chain. Ohno reached into the box, taking out the necklace and fastening it on Jun, who stood motionless as Ohno worked. After fastening the necklace, Ohno placed a brief kiss on Jun’s cheek.
“Don’t take it off unless I tell you to.”
“Do I ever, Satoshi?” Jun answered, and Ohno shook his head.
“I just wanted to make sure you remember who was in charge here.” Ohno smiled and Jun laughed, a read laugh, his smile spreading across his face.
“I could never forget, Satoshi.”
Ohno nodded, slipping under Jun’s arm and moving towards the door back down to the shoot. “It really is OK to grieve for the love that could not be, Jun. You worked so hard to get over it that you never did grieve. Just make sure that you remember the love that you do have. You are mine and I will not give you up to him.” He shuffled towards the door. “They will be looking for us soon you know.” The door closed behind Ohno, and Jun nodded, his hand moving to the collar around his neck, as untraditional as it was. It would be OK. Whatever the other three did, even if Sho confessed to him, it would be OK. Satoshi would make sure of that. He took very good care of what was his, after all. And Jun was his, had been his, for over six years now. Mind, body and heart, beaten and bruised as it was, they were Satoshi’s now, and only his.
