Lecture 5 - Twenty Four Hours

Sep 20, 2011 21:07

[The Doctor has spent the last day distributing vaccines thanks to some eager volunteers. Some unzombified drones may have also have taken them too. In any case, almost a day has passed and it's about time to... make a call.]

[The situation was bad enough as it is. It was already too late for those who had taken the fake vaccine, but stopping further production was still a possibility.]

[The hospital, on the other hand, was a lost cause. Whatever lives may be saved by the true vaccines inside would be paid with those of the ones who would have to fight its residents. This line of thinking has been slowly returning to Kiritsugu during the past few days.]

[Taking advantage of the Doctor's location, Kiri resides in an empty rooftop. Getting there was not easy, but a large amount of bullets weren't necessary when making use of crude explosives. Right now, he's lining up the Weatherby rifle towards the Doctor's head. He still doesn't have a good grasp of the shooting, so it may be some time until he feels confident enough to do so.]

[It's safe to say that this really is a bit of a surprise. The Doctor was familiar with one sniper who should've been in the hospital somewhere trying to chase after him. Instead, there's a different one on another building. This may be a good practice at what's to come.

The Doctor turns his head over to the direction Kiritsugu is aiming from. Facing forward again, he... jumps off the edge of the Hospital's rooftop apparently committing suicide.

In about a moment later behind Kiritsugu, a hand touches his shoulder.]

May I help you?

[Change of plans. Kiritsugu doesn't even pay attention to the rifle's care as it drops to the floor, his left hand reaching for the Thompson Center Arms Contender in his right holster. Being familiarized with marksmanship, Kiritsugu knows the dangers in shooting by holding the gun in any manner but upright. Still, he's already in danger, and the extra second could very well save his life. Only turning his head, he fires the gun towards the space behind him, hoping the exceedingly fast handgun, 10% stronger than even the Walther, will work.]

[It's a strain, to say the least. Shooting the Contender with one hand is already more dangerous than doing the same thing with a sniper rifle. To do so in his unconventional stance is even worse on his arm, especially in his current condition. However, Kiritsugu currently resides in a state where he's able to put aside any uncomfortableness as long as it doesn't kill him, not dissimilar to his former use of Time Alter.]

[That was expected from someone with at least some skill. The Doctor's body vanishes yet again before Kiritsugu could ever fire the gun. Anytime afterward could have been considered as fatal to any normal human. He reappears behind Kiritsugu yet again... Of course, one has to note that there is no space behind Kiritsugu besides the open space beyond the edges of the rooftop.

The Doctor is... floating mid-air. Laughing softly at Kiritsugu, the Doctor holds out his arm and a surge of black electricity makes its way towards the Magus Killer. Just as he's about to shoot again, the Doctor teleports and reappears above the man, ready to perform a drop kick.]

[Kiritsugu turns towards the doctor as he appears casting on the other side. Were he less focused on the battle at hand, he would be cursing the Grail for having taken his magic from him. The ability to use Time Alter would have surely allowed him to evade the lightning, but no such luck. Instead, once he sees the Doctor's physical attack, he retreats further into a rooftop with a backward leap. Best case scenario, his own spell works against him. If not, then at the very least he'll have his enemy block its path ( ... )

[The Doctor isn't quick enough to react to the next few shots. Each of the bullets pierce through the Doctor's lab coat and chest and he visibly winces at the pain; however, his reaction fits more of a person who was punched rather than shot. The Demon Crown is actively protecting the "king" from any and all attacks. Even Quote had to get more than just a few good shots to subdue the Doctor in his first form. My, this man is quite persistent.]

This is typical of you assassins. You would hinder the march of progress if only for just a bit of petty cash. I was prepared to deal with you people by the first moment I stepped onto the Floating Island.

You fool. Let me educate you...

On why you should never interrupt a scientist's research!

[The form of the Doctor disappears again and reappears in the skies above the rooftop. Curling up into fetal position, the Doctor gathers all the power in his body to cast this next spell. He stretches out his body with his arms in the air and from the skies, dark thunder pummels down at the rooftop, ( ... )

[So they do hurt him. Not nearly enough as he'd prefer, though. This is certainly starting to confirm his theory of this being magic ( ... )

[The Doctor teleports from the air again and down towards the open top floor of the building. He looks around and spots Kiritsugu running downstairs. Compared to the folks he dealt with in the Floating Island, this one is assuredly quick to run. The Doctor is having fun right now. He truly feels like more of the hunter in this scenario. You're amusing him, Kiritsugu, but he would rather kill you right here if he can help it.

Stretching his arms down at the ground, the Doctor once again sends bolts of thunder to hammer through the building. The top floor begins to crumble and if Kiritsugu isn't quick enough, he just very well might be buried. He can hear the laughter of the mad doctor echoing.]

[Kiritsugu realizes he has a severe disadvantage. The Doctor can fly, it's none of his concern if the building comes down. Having a fair amount of experience in collapsing structures himself, as well as an analysis of his sniper perch, Kiritsugu's assessment is that the building will stand no more than three floors pressing upon it. Upon the fourth, the weight will make it go into freefall. If that doesn't kill Kiritsugu, the walls crashing down upon him undoubtedly will. Halfway there ( ... )

[The Doctor continues his persistent wave of attacks. Thunder strikes one after another, smashing at the floors. Beneath them, dust and then large chunks of debris begin falling one after another. Crackling electricity manage to seep past as well. At this point, he intends to drown Kiritsugu beneath all the rubble. Perhaps if he found Kiritsugu's corpse, the Doctor could zombify it and make it his loyal slave. That is, after all, the fate that waits for everybody here. Why should the dead be excluded from the Doctor's law?

He continues floating in the air as he brings down the electricity. His bespectacled eyes look below, trying to find any sign of Kiritsugu. Admittedly, this is a difficult task if only because of all the dust flying around. The abandoned building isn't at all well-lit meaning searching for him is made all the more difficult.

Well. Whatever. The Doctor will just find his corpse once this whole building is leveled.]

[Troublesome, but not unexpected. Kiritsugu's aim is almost thrown off by the massive amount of dust. However, unlike the Doctor, he has the advantage of having his prey in his sights at the time of the attacks. He forces his aim to remain in the same spot, persistently unwilling to remove it through taking advantage of the fact he doesn't even need to take cover anymore, even as he feels the floor crumble down. That makes three. One more and he'll meet the same fate as one of his former prey, without the advantage of having magic to protect him. The floor collapses... Almost there.]

[For a precious few seconds, all is quiet.]

[ BGM - Magus Killer ]

[A shot rings out throughout the building. The .30-06 Springfield round, cloaked by the immense amount of dust, flies towards the Doctor. Kiritsugu lets out the breath he had been holding, the dust immediately proceeding to fill his lungs, which are already accustomed to smoke of a cigarette ( ... )

[Like sharp stabs, the bullets pierce through the Doctor forcing a yell out of him. Instantly in retaliation, the Doctor points to wherever the shot might've come from. Dark electricity zaps out from his finger tips while his other arm grasps at the wound made through his heart. Each bullet was meant to kill. This man is a clear professional and the fact that this situation that bordered on the supernatural didn't seem to deter him amazed the Doctor. Even the most level-headed assassin every well may have difficulty.

The Doctor then teleports again. He's going nowhere with this and he realizes that after despite everything, the assassin still has an opportunity to hit. The debris continues falling even as the Doctor reappears, but this doesn't bother him at all. He throws thunder at where Kiritsugu might be from a closer range. The Doctor is still smiling, but he's visibly frustrated.

What an annoying worm he's turning out to be.]

[Two seconds. That's all the time he will have before he's fried by the dark lightning bolts. Kiritsugu's mind lacks recollection. This incident has turned him into too much of a machine to evoke that meeting in the hotel two months ago. He had indeed achieved the feat of drawing his last resort in two seconds back then ( ... )

[Everything was going exactly as planned. A mere assassin could never earnestly come face to face with a true Demon King. That is what the Doctor has become from the very moment he placed the Demon Crown on his head. Black lightning crackled as it shot straight for Kiritsugu. The Doctor watched with anticipation for the assassin to drop down to the floor, leaving nothing but his charred remains ( ... )

[A short interval of luck in Kiritsugu's typical life. He did not take the time to consider it, however. Despite its recent presence, fortune is not a factor that Kiritsugu Emiya wishes to integrate into his methods. Not because of its abandonment of him, but simply because it was inefficient. To him, it mattered little if the Doctor would die eventually. It is because of this that the Contender's barrel is swiftly opened, a normal Springfield bullet being inserted within. It closes ( ... )

[Consciousness began to fade. The Doctor could no longer see anything beyond an infinite shade of red. He was dying. No matter what Kiritsugu did, the Doctor would meet his death right here. It was a shame. He wasn't able to get too far with his plans, did he? He had expected his personal army of zombies to show up in front of the Hospital. He would lead them ( ... )
