"Honestly, Doctor...stealing my fire by almost begging for an explanation?" She contemplated her old classmate and after a moment, turned and walked over to a plant. One of the fronds rose and allowed itself to be petted. "Genetics, dear Doctor. Pure and simple genetics. What if one could infuse the essence of an animal in a plant? It would have both the outward innocence of a plant with the...aggression of an animal."
She lovingly stroked the plant frond. "Make these free from disease and which can be not labeled as...invasive and it can be used as an invasion plant. Give it a year on any planet and I can literally take over the place..."
She threw back her head and laughed.

"I don't suppose you took the time to consider the lessons of evolution? Animal and vegetable? Assuming your genetically enhanced salad over there could take root and invade an entire planet in any appreciable amount of time, what makes you think it won't grow beyond your control? Maybe even develop an agenda of its own? Or do you plan on standing on a pedestal with a whip and chair to keep it in line?"
