I am soooooo progressively reclusive or self-destructive or ...i-don't-know-what. I'm very frustrated at my lack of participation around here. In RL I pretty much keep myself to myself, so it's not like my behavior is out of character. Not the extrovert type. But I sure wish I could just communicate a simple LJ comment without deleting or re- ( Read more... )

I'm right there with you about making posts and talk myself out of making them. Maybe I don't WANT people to know me anymore with all the backstabbing and whatnot over the years, maybe I feel nobody cares, maybe I don't want anyone to care? Maybe I should make an effort again? Dunno.

Anyway, just say something, however brief, if it comes, it comes. I'm sure you're still plenty interesting and make interesting observations.

ha ha ha, that first picture is hilarious!

*goes to attempt to make a post.

Me, I want to put myself out there, but I seem to have some sort of lazy-and-boring...writer's block? ...identity crisis? My life is just in a boring patch, I guess!

It would be easy to just make "amusing photo" posts all the time :)

hmmmm, what a sexist add on that train by the way. What if a dude wants to dance? I suppose that would be perfectly ok. I'm on board with that! :D

I completely sympathise! I'm not one of those 'reserved in rl, out there online'--it's the same in both realms for me. Also, I worry about whether the people who added my journal for fic WANT to see other stuff, so I keep the latter minimal and then only pop in something when I think it's been too long without a post.

GET IN THE PCHAT TOTALLY.

That second pic--SERIOUSLY? I mean, is this something I'm missing in public transport, people poledancing? wtf?

Yeah, it's ridiculous. They're our journals, but we can't help but want to shield our friends from things we presume they're uninterested in! (I like to hear about RL; that's where the people are.)

...And they're in pchat. So sometimes that puts me off; it's harder to talk in big groups. However, the immediacy of the interaction is great there. And the entertainment. And the porn.

I guess late at night it gets a bit more strip-clubby in subway cars! The sign seems to imply so! ("NITE" passengers, heh:)

Heheh. Usually pchat is just 2 or 3 people idling while they work on homework or are too tired to do anything but browse the web and occasionally make a comment -- there's usually some kind of vague Watchmen-related doodle drawn. We only get "big groups" a few nights a week. I'm not sure if you have noticed, but with paintchat, you connect to the pchat web site and can "see" who is in the pchat first so that you can decide you want to come in to visit or not. But we don't bite and yes, sometimes there is wonderful porn being drawn.

So, please come and visit us now and then. We always welcome anyone who just wants to lurk and not talk. :)

Yeah, I know. I used to be there all the time; have you forgotten me? *lip quiver*
It's just hard for shy people to get un-shy. But watching people draw is tons of fun.

What's prompted me to get back in the action is that Tortoise was telling me about a recent discussion there re: speculation on the characters' underwear choice. Sorry I missed that!

I understand your reluctance to post things that you fear might be boring. But the things you post here are the only way I'm able to hear from you / learn about you at all, so as far as I'm concerned anything you feel like sharing is welcome! I consider you a friend and would very much like to get to know you better. Of course we meet here first and foremost for our shared fandom, but personally I find it very hard to establish contact with someone and then not develop an interest in every aspect of who they are. (Not that I mean to pressure you to post things you'd rather keep private! I'm just trying to say I will never be uninterested.)

Unfortunately I can't drag you out to chat because of the time difference. (That's something that frustrates *me*, btw... Whenever I'm online I'm always alone. That really sucks.) But if you need a push to be active online... Read my new fic? Please? I would so much like to know what you think... *blinking Bambi eyes*

What you said there -- I feel completely the same way...about other people's posts! So I guess I should just look at the same way about my own! You phrased it all perfectly.

Yes, this time zone thing just doesn't work out, does it? Well, now that I'm officially on vacation for a few days, maybe I'll be up to all hours and available trans-Atlantically.

That would be cool! I'm afraid I'm very busy this weekend (back in the Netherlands to be with the boyfriend, visit the parents, meet up with old friends etc.), but I'll be available Monday evening, say from 22:00 hours on (which for you would be 16:00, I think).

I know what you mean; lately I've been sliding towards so-reclusive-I-CAN'T-COMMENT-EVER. (Then I'll have sporadic bursts of commenting, like I'm making up for lost comments or something.)

Also, seconding that you should post anything you want; reading about other people's lives is always interesting, IMO.

LOL at both of those pictures.

Yeah, I always want to read about people's RLs. Nothing wrong with journals full of fic, but I like other entries in between in order to learn about the people who wrote them...even if it is trivial stuff. Sure, I see stuff that bores me sometimes, but it's very easy to just keep scrolling!

Like you say, these things come in phases. Gotta break the cycle here.

I agree with all of your comments here. I also tend to talk myself out of posting most things that aren't straight fic - with that at least I'm offering something.

And that first picture up there is hilarious!

Well, it keeps you mysterious and makes your rare RL posts more of a treat ;)

Re: that first pic -- I think I'll post some of those signs around town, just to spread the surreal joy.

btw. first picture... i totally thought i should do this before i read that you wanted to also. *snickers* wee people. i love the british.

btw. look up "look around you" on youtube. i have no idea how old this british show actually is(might be new?), but it's a mock of those old timey educational mini videos you'd get in middle or high school. they're amazing. (of course devil nerd showed me them)

Oh my goodness; those were awesome! I watched them all now; they were a blast. I love all the made-up science-y words and names. I recognized Peter Serafinowicz, of course...and even a little glimpse of Simon Pegg. Great recommendation. Thanks, Devil Nerd.
