I was sorting through some old papers today, and I found some very old pictures of myself and Jed. It was like walking through a time machine (yes, very cliche, I know). I don't often see pictures of myself when I was younger, so it was quite a shock

Those are nice pictures. I have one somewhere that Mom took when you were babysitting me. You and I had made cupcakes and we had frosting all over our faces. I'll have to find it.

When did the President have long hair and a beard? Where you camping?

Jed had long hair back when I first met him. At that point in time, he was studying to become a priest and was a very grave and serious young man with his head caught in the spirtual world. The one thing about him that betrayed his youth was his hair. Unlike most of the older generation, and even much of ours, Jed kept his hair longer...I think it had something to do with his desire to be his own man (after suffering through his father). This picture was actually taken after he'd returned from some sort of camping trip he'd went on with a couple of priests-in-training from his classes. I think it was the beginning of his "love affair" with the National Parks. The week he returned was the first time we met...and the week he switched his course of studies.

He looks pretty rugged, though, doesn't he?
