at least your students can read. Mine...oh mine....I need to pick your brain about how to teach an English survey, cause I'm clearly a failure at it. We are supposed to get up to Milton (there are 3 weeks left) and we are not even at Herrick. They couldn't handle Beowulf, or Chaucer, they barely grasped Spenser. I'm sure I can do a better job teaching it, but they just have to fucking read something once in a while. Today, I'm taking them to the NYPL where they will get to see a manuscript with Donne work in it.
What planet was I on that I didn't even realize we were teaching the same class at the same time??? How cool is that! We're doing Herrick on Wednesday. When I teach this again, I'm slashing Spenser down to a single day and spending WAY more time on the Renaissance poets -- at this rate, we're doing Donne and EVERYBODY ELSE in two lectures and a section meeting, which is ridiculous. But you, YOU get to go see a manuscript, you're totally the coolest and really ought to help them love, well, SOMETHING if they haven't been getting it already
