1. Supply and Demand. It's priced that high because they just don't expect to sell a lot of 'em and they're willing to lose a few people like you so they can sell $70 copies to the few monied baby boomers who want a copy.
2. Rights issues. According to the wikipedia page, the show featured musical guests. There's a good chance that they weren't able to easily (or cheaply) acquire the DVD reproduction rights for those songs from whomever currently owns the rights. WKRP in Cincinnati was kept off DVD for years because of all the trouble they had tracking down reproduction rights for all of the songs they used, for instance (and I think, in the end, they just switched the songs to easier-to-get ones).

Actually, the price wasn't really the point of the post, as I'm willing to pay it - if that's what it takes. The point was their starting with Season Three, which is unusual. However, knowing the show as I do, I can understand their choice since the 3rd season was the most controversial.
