The interesting Creature

Last night was a bit of a weird night for me. On the freeway while I was driving home last night I almost ran over a poor dying creature. I pulled over when I saw it with my headlights, and grabbed a towel from the hood of my car, wrapped it and put in the passengers side

I think I ran accross something like that in a book I was looking at once. I think that they were an endangered species or something. I believe they were called "moogles?"
I'll try to find the book again, but I have no clue what it was called...
