[Action: The Park]

[The Doctor is walking down the street with a cheerful smile on his face. ... Well, there aren't too many moments where he doesn't look cheerful, but he looks particularly happy right now. He's just taking a stroll through the park as if just minding his own business. As drones are passing by with anxious or curious looks on ( Read more... )

[The first time the owl so much as stays in one spot is the last. Though Kiritsugu's no Executor, he was still trained as an assassin. He's able to land a knife throw from such a short distance. A gunshot would have alerted the neighbors even more, not to mention it would ruin the evidence in front of him. All of these thoughts exist in absence of regret at killing an animal he trained.]

[He does not reach for it right away. Through the windows, he carefully looks at the exterior of the house to make sure nobody's looking. This could very well be a trap, one the Doctor (and he knew it was the Doctor) could activate upon seeing him grab the owl.]

[Having taken the necessary precautions, Kiritsugu grabs the letter, and carefully opens it, retreating from the corpse in front of him as he does so.]

[The handwriting on the letter is surprisingly neat, legible kanji. It almost betrays a sense of aesthetic beauty that could never be found anywhere on the Doctor's person. While the Doctor could have written in English, Kiritsugu appeared to be Japanese so he might as well have used his native language. Translated, it reads:]

Salutations, my dear assassin!

I would have used your real name had I known it, but this will be fixed quite soon, let me assure you. First, let's dispel some concerns before proceeding: no, I don't know where you live. I simply gave your traitorous friend there the order to find whoever sent him.

As a medical professional, there is an infinite amount of pressing matters to attend to...

[Kiritsugu had already recognized the Doctor as having Japanese features. This confirms his suspicions. At the very least, he feels relief at having his name remain undisclosed. Just like one can find one's name with an address, the opposite holds true as well.]

[More importantly, his cover has been blown. Spying on the Doctor should prove much more difficult from now on. If he found this one, then the decoy cameras he set must undoubtedly be disposed of by now, which prohibits any possibility of retrieving the film. Tracking devices would have helped, but for once, his enemy actually surpasses him in certain fields of technology. Having the signal tracked back to him would have been inconvenient, even if he could have built such devices out of Mayfield's limited resources.]

[He continues reading.]

... so I'm afraid I couldn't be here to personally greet you.

But what an extraordinary assassin you are! You're employing birds to act on your bidding. Birds! Maybe if you had used rats or something, I wouldn't have spotted them as easily.

You aren't an ordinary assassin as I thought you were. What did you do then with that naughty gun of yours... Seal the magic locked inside my Demon Crown? I didn't see it coming. You caught me off guard and I can assure you that's very difficult to do.

And this is why I have bothered to write to you, assassin: you've caught my interest. You are within my field of vision.
