Part of my ass-kissing exercise in 8th grade was to sort the hand-written notes from home by student into a folder.

Lord knows how many points that earned, but I got to see some of that. The constant stomach aches, deaths in the family, "not feeling well", etc.

Unless I was barfing reliably and consistently, I was expected to get my butt to school.

Dad didn't rise until after 9 (I got that gene too) and there had better be a reason that I was there, ruining his solitude.
