I know that LJ has seen busier days, especially in this particular quadrant. But I woke up this morning and it suddenly hit me that this Saturday (today) marks five years since The Eleventh Hour was broadcast! Five years ago, I (and loads of other people) sat in my/our _____room(s) in anticipation of this exciting event, new Doctor, new writer, ( Read more... )

Wow, I can't believe it's been 5 years! Where, exactly, does time go?

Nice icon! I nearly forgot about the stetson.

I know. I remember when he had just been announced as the next Doctor and was doing the crazy hand gestures and sporting wild hair and oddish sartorial choices. Or perhaps it was just the hair. :)

Eleven has such a special place in my heart. When my brother and I saw Ruby in the Smoke before Tennant had even announced leaving, we both said of Matt Smith (who played Jim in RITS), yep, him, he's the next doctor, and then he was and we lost our shit.

And then I really loathed the Ten specials and was about to jump Who ship, but Matt jumped out of his TARDIS and he was just everything I'd hoped for and more. He WAS The Doctor in a way none but Tom Baker had been for me. The Ponds and Eleven were a dream team, especially in s5 - 6.1 and then 7.1. Even when the series got wonky later on in s6 and 7, they stole the show and made it great. I also love how nice this comm was. I had kind of withdrawn from lj who fandom because of how scared I was by other comms.

The Eleventh Hour forever. Best debut episode.

I loved Ruby in the Smoke. :) I had no clue who he was when they announced his name for Eleven, but when I saw him, I was like, "Oh! It's him! Sally Lockhart's tall, gangly friend!"

The Ten specials were oddish. I sort of went with it, it had its moments that I loved and others that I just had to scratch my head at. I pretty much lurked in every other Who comm, especially the main one as it got super contentious on a regular basis. I had tried to start a conversation there about older Who once and was basically jeered at because I was not a regular. ????? I wasn't even worth the time to flame apparently. Not terribly friendly at all. Thank goodness for this comm.

The Eleventh Hour had style!

Oh my - it's been five years? I can truly say that time does fly when you're having fun, because the Eleventh Doctor and his family of companions provided so much of that, that I hardly noticed the time passing. I truly liked Eleven from the moment I saw him. I'll admit I was predisposed to like him, because I had never been a huge fan of the Tenth, but that predisposition was proven so right for me. I loved the writing for him, for Amy and Rory, and for River (and I may be one of the very few who adored S06), but every experience with Eleven crackled with energy, wit, kindness and danger.

It's funny: I loved The Eleventh hour, but it wasn't until half way through S06 that I realized, to my surprise, that the Eleventh had steadily worked his way into my heart, and had become my favorite iteration of the Doctor. I will always be a Who fan, but Matt's time was special, and will always be special for me.

I was disappointed Nine had such a limited run. His sadness and his bond was Rose felt stronger and more genuine to me that the one she later had with Ten. But I was thrilled to be watching Who again and I liked a lot of the stories during the Ten era. Was not so keen on how he treated some of his companions. Doctor and Donna was probably the best in terms of someone suited to him that he couldn't abuse or ignore in favor of worlds-ending angst. He was bouncy and manic, but very very dark. I thought that I liked him quite a bit, but it wasn't until Eleven that I thought, "Oh yeah. This is more like it." Something about him (it could have been his attire and his mannerisms, Matt Smith having binged on Two, and his more casual regard for trying to seem human and strictly engendered all the time) felt retro like the New Who finally felt like a nice combination of new and old. And then the colors and sets and locales were more intimate and eerie ( ... )

I honestly didn't expect even this many folks to appear and comment and exclaim and ponder the time passing as well.
It made my weekend. :)
Five years ago seems like somewhere in the mists of time....

Ten is the Doctor of my heart, but I was relieved at how soon I loved Eleven. He popped his head up out of that crashed TARDIS and I was like "yeah, we're gonna be fine."

Yeah, what's not to like about him! :) I loved Day of the Doctor and seeing them both through War Doctor's lens. That was hilarious!
