Copy cat?

Maybe I'm going to be a copy cat here, but I really don't care. I just read an entry in a friends journal that has me bothered. Since this is going to be a policital post and will probably be long, I'm going to put it behind a cut to save room on your friends page.

I remember hearing something one time, I think back when I was in Guides, about how you could not touch the flag to the ground or else it would be burned (of course, now that I think about it, they may have been telling us about a time way back when .... hmmm). I agree with the statement that they shouldn't make flag burning illegal as it is a form of free speech (God, why does that look wrong?? Speach?? Nope that looks wrong too... well whatever you get my comment..). I don't like the thought of people burning flags but it's not something I would ever do, and it should be allowed ( ... )

"Speech" is correct.

Yes, it it not allowed for the flag to touch the ground. And the only proper way of disposing of a torn, or soiled flag is by a ceremony where it is burned. That being said, I am proud to be an American, and I would not burn the flag. But I can't help but thinking that if they pass this law, it will become "open season" on what else they will take away from us. It's like I said in the earlier part of the post, now they have made it easier for the government to take our property/houses if it is for the "public good" which now includes "economic development". It is just scaring me to death. It as I have always felt on free speech, "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to my death your right to say it!" I don't know who originally said that, but I think it's great.

I don't think that the USA has to worry too much about loosing its constitutional freedoms. After all, that's what the 2nd ammendment is there for, right?

I'm sure that the NRA will rise up en mass and over-throw the government if there is even the slightest hint that it might be planning to repeal the 2nd ammendment!

And yes, I'm being sarcastic! I just cannot help having a dig at the supposed reason behind the 2nd ammendment to the US constitution.

:-)

I know that our preoccupation with owning firearms is a puzzle. I feel that the ones that I own are for protection of myself; my property; and anyone who is in my house. Yes, they are kept locked up.

I am seriously scared of the changes that are being made by Congress and the Supereme Court. It just seems to me, that bit by bit, the government is just intruding more and more into our personal lives. That is not good!
