In Which I Try to Catch Up

First, dear reader, a fitness update.  I'm one workout away from completing the "Break-in" segment of my year-long "New Rules of Weightlifting" regimen.  The premise is simple - two workouts per week (saving designated weeks off), no excuses.  Even if I have to to them on back-to-back days.  Even if I have to stay until late here at school.  When I ( Read more... )

Speaking of catching up on reading, I'm finally working my way through the noir collection you lent me. I'd forgotten which ones you recommended specifically, so I'm just reading all of them. :-) I've already finished and enjoyed The Postman Always Rings Twice and They Shoot Horses, Don't They? I'm in the middle of Thieves Like Us and not liking it as much as the other two. I'm hoping it picks up.

I'm looking forward to The Big Clock. Several years ago, Kevin Kostner was in a movie based on it called No Way Out, which I remember enjoying. I looked for the book at the time, but it was out of print. This was before the internet, and by the time the internet came around, I had forgotten about it.

Thanks for the lend!

Glad to hear you're enjoying them! I didn't much like "Thieves Like Us" either - I think the author's trying to be experimental, sort of the literary equivalent of the fake documentary style in film. And he doesn't quite pull it off. I think you'll like The Big Clock, though. And "They Shoot Horses..." just killed me. Really bleak - as in "The Wrestler" level bleak. But I like that...
