Five and
Six of "Hairy Situations And Situational Hair," I wrote a drabble about Junior and Robin teaming up. I hadn't even written them meeting yet and, at the time, thought it was just too presumptuous (not to mention reeking of Mary Sue-ism) to post a story where Junior was in the Teen Titans (or at least working with them). So it stayed hidden in the depths of my Private posts, collecting dust. Until today!
So now I present a drabble that was written October 30th, 2005. Where, or even if, it falls in Mullet-verse continuity is something even I can't say for sure. But what the hell! Why not? :D
Love, Hate, And Body Heat
Junior hate, hate, hates Robin. Because Robin has a cape and Junior can tell by the way he's huddling-but-not-really inside it that it's probably really warm and it's the middle of winter and Junior really needs a cold weather variation for his costume.
He doesn't have a clue what his dads did to keep warm while on winter stake-outs, and everyone else on the team is metas or aliens or has capes, so he can't exactly ask them for advice. He could ask his dads, later, but he's trying to prove he's mature and capable of doing the whole superhero-in-training thing and whining about the cold just...really would ruin any credibility, so that's not going to happen.
What he really wants to do is have a go at those pipes and bricks on the other side of the roof. A little acrobatics would warm him right up. But they're probably icy, and then he'd be sweaty which would make him colder, and anyway it's a stake-out. Bouncing around on the roof is definitely something that Robin would Bat-glare at him for, and probably draw unwanted attention anyway.
Junior hates Robin. Only not really because Robin's teaching him pressure points, which are the coolest thing ever, and anyway Robin himself is a pretty okay guy. So yeah, Junior doesn't really hate Robin. He's just cold. Really, really cold.
Junior hates the cold. Hate, hate, hates the cold.
He glances over at Robin, who's still not-huddling under his cape. Junior drops into a lower crouch and does a little crab-walk shuffle over to Robin's side.
Robin glances at him, and Junior's pretty sure he's expecting him to talk. But Junior doesn't. He just reaches out to touch Robin's cape. It's cold.
Junior frowns at it and Robin's forehead is wrinkled just that slightest bit that means he's got an eyebrow raised behind his mask. Blowing a quick breath out his nose in irritation, Junior jabs a hand forward and inside the cape. He's sure Robin could've stopped him, but he thinks Robin's probably also curious what he's up to and humoring him to see.
It's warm inside Robin's cape.
Junior's bottom lip juts out and quivers as he stares up at Robin, widening his eyes innocently. He practices in the bathroom mirror and he's almost good enough to get his dads now. He's never tried it on Robin before.
"M'cold," he mutters quietly, trying to look pathetic and shivery.
Robin stares at him a moment, then sighs and opens his cape up in invitation. Junior beams happily at him and ducks under his arm, snuggling up a little closer than Robin is probably comfortable with. But Junior doesn't care because he's already there, and yeah. Body heat.
Junior love, love, loves Robin. Especially Robin's cape.
