Title: Definitely Not Boring
Fandom: Justice League
Characters: Ted/Tora, Guy
Prompt: "Fall." (fanfic100) and "Thought I needed this." (un_love_you)
Word Count: 1666
Rating: NC-17
Author's Notes: In the course of writing this, I realized I was writing things in such a way that the word "condom" never even comes up. I disapprove of this, but cannot seem to fit that in. So for the purposes of this story, let us assume that Tora is on some heavy duty birth control. Okay? Okay. (Well no, not really, but I have to believe that or else this makes me wince.)
I am so very, very sorry. ...And I blame duskdog717.

Definitely Not Boring

It isn't anything they ever planned on. It goes against fundamental aspects of who they are that define how they see themselves, nevermind what anyone else might think.

But somehow, they can't stop.

The firm arm wraps around her waist from behind and she gasps, spinning to face him. His other arm comes up diagonal on her back to dig hot fingers along her spine and she melts into his kiss.

They part and his eyes travel her body appreciatively, his leer really an affectionate smile. "You're dressed up," he teases.

Her eyes widen as she remembers and then his do too as he realizes.

"You're dressed up," he murmurs, voice entirely different.

Heart pounding, she whispers, "I have a date."

"When--?"

The knock on the door makes her gasp and his arms tighten for just a second (an urge to protect her?) before he lets her go and searches the room for escape or concealment. She shoos him toward the closet and smooths out the wrinkles (burning handprints) he left on her dress. Forcing a smile, she opens the door to a cloud of chemical musk that attacks her nose.

Grinning at her, affection lurking in his leer, her date almost makes a show of looking her over.

Her smile becomes less forced as she takes in his appearance. He obviously went to a lot of trouble to make himself presentable (too much cologne to mask his nerves), and her heart goes out to him.

"Ready to go, babe?" he asks, offering his arm (he's not quite mocking the convention).

Grabbing her purse, she steps out and closes the door behind her (unlocked), sliding a hand through the circle of Guy's arm. "Where are we going?"

"Thought we'd go see a movie."

Tora feels her stomach clench and forces trepidation from her voice as she asks, "What movie?"

"Th' new Stallone flick," Guy says, grinning at her. He's excited, she can tell. She tries to be excited too, for him.

Watching sweaty men stomping around shooting at each other and punching people in the face isn't exactly her idea of a good time, but she's used to it and Guy likes that sort of thing. She knows better than to expect romance from him.

"Hey, babe, yer lipstick's messed up," Guy points out.

Tora doesn't falter, but only just. Then she reaches up to fix the mess (Ted made) of her lipstick. Pressing her lips together, then smiling, she turns to Guy.

"Did I get it?"

"Ah don't worry, sweetcheeks, it'll just get messed up again later," Guy tells her, and she's not sure if he's trying to be reassuring as well as suggestive.

She likes to think so.

They're certain they must reek of guilt to J'onn, but Ted tells her J'onn's used to that from him. The Martian might get worried if Ted didn't give off vibes that he had some crazy scheme up his sleeve. And they worry their teammate enough as it is.

"Really, it's in J'onn's best interest that we feel guilty."

That Ted says this while licking liquid heat over her collarbone goes a long way toward convincing her.

"Are you--?"

"I thought you were--"

Then they're falling together, holding each other, clinging to the proof of their continued health and safety. When Tora notices that Ted gives off heat like a furnace, or Ted notices that the curve of Tora's face resembles half the Lemniscate of Bernoulli, neither could say. But suddenly they're not touching with the concern of teammates, they're gripping with the desperation of lovers. Mouths hot and breaths steaming in the autumn air chilled by the aftermath of Tora's powers, they find the door to a shed on the roof by pure chance.

Ted runs too hot to be bothered by the chill as clothing falls to the floor and Tora runs too cold to notice.

Things they never noticed about the other now stand out brightly in their minds. Ted has the hands of an inventor: rough where they've grown accustomed to tools, scarred and burned and precise. Tora's pseudonym is "Ice" for a reason: frost forms on her skin at a stray thought, melting cool against heated sweat.

It's passionate and loving, for all that it's impulsive and unexpected, and they cling to each other through the aftershocks, kisses growing gentle.

Ted brushes her hair back from her forehead, concern on his face as he tries to find the words to speak. He doesn't need to, they're the same words running through her own mind.

What have we done?

For a while they agree that it was just adrenaline and it can never happen again. Until the next time when they're left breathless and questioning their own sanity.

For a while, after each time they swear it's the last time, until the next time comes around. Finally they accept it for whatever it is.

It's hard, at times.

When Guy is making fun of another dateless night alone for Ted and he wants to see the expression on the man's face if he said he doesn't mind because Tora rode him like Calamity Jane for nearly a half hour earlier. Or when someone tells Tora she's too sweet and innocent and she wants to say that what she does with Ted is nothing like either one of those.

They want to unburden themselves by confessing to their best friends, but Booster gossips almost as much as Bea. And neither could swear their friends wouldn't be just as hurt by the knowledge.

So they sneak moments together, senses on edge for fear of discovery and their time together all the sweeter for it. More intense.

Why this unwise addiction, they can't say. Nor can they say whether it will finally end before someone discovers them.

He traces epitrochoids around her belly button, quiet and contemplative, wondering if this is love or just sex. She stares up at the ceiling feeling warm breath flow over her ribs, silently wondering if the affection she feels could ever lead to marriage.

She wants, she wants, to believe she's not cheating on Guy, not lying to their friends, for nothing more than a roll in the hay.

The only promises they've made to each other are to end this, and neither has been able to keep them.

"Ted?" Her voice is soft, drowsy, and his finger pauses on an inner loop of the geometric pattern.

He turns his head and nuzzles against her side, nose brushing against her breast. "Hm?"

Feeling a stirring of renewed interest at the touch, Tora slides her hand over his hip to feel his own swelling interest. She'll continue the thought once she has Ted settled inside her once again, hot and hard and still slick with their passion.

Knees on either side of Ted's hips, she steadies herself with her hands on his chest, biting her lip in pleasure as she slides down until she can't go any further. Ted groans under her and sits up, wrapping his arms around her and grinding his hips up against her until they're comfortable.

Letting out a shaky breath, Tora meets his eyes, hazed with lust, and asks, "What are we doing?"

"If you have to ask, we're not doing it right," Ted chuckles, tilting his head to kiss her shoulder.

Tora arches her back, feeling a smile stretch her lips, and Ted obligingly takes a nipple into his mouth, swirling his hot tongue over it. Ted makes her smile.

Cupping the back of his head with one hand, she sighs with pleasure as he lavishes attention on her breasts, his hair damp but soft under her fingers.

"We can't keep doing this."

"Of course not," Ted agrees, breath brushing over her spit-dampened skin. "Twice in as many hours is my limit, I think. I'll need a nap and a snack to get it up again after this."

A breathless laugh escapes her and she meets Ted's eyes again, then his lips, lifting her other hand to cup his cheek as they kiss slowly, unhurried.

An emergency called their teammates away earlier while they were out getting groceries, according to a hasty note left on the fridge. They don't expect to be back for three days, at least.

Ted grabs her hips and thrusts up suddenly, making her cry out in surprise and pleasure.

"I don't--I don't want to hurt anyone!" she gasps out.

Wincing, Ted looks away. "Of course not. Neither do I."

"We should stop," Tora says reluctantly. It's not the first time she's said it.

Ted frowns in thought, eyebrows drawing together, before glancing at her. "When they get back," he lies, sliding his hands over her back and rolling them on the bed so he's on top. As she wraps her legs around his waist and urges him on with her cries of pleasure, she doesn't call him on the lie.

After all, all that changes about the lie is which of them tells it.

This thing they have, while not without love, isn't anything like a real relationship. Tora thinks the term may be "friends with benefits," but English slang still makes her uncertain sometimes.

They're friends, though. And they both benefit.

Tora loves Guy, she really does. But sometimes she just gets so frustrated. She knows he's a good person, she knows he means well, but sometimes she thinks she just needs a man she doesn't have to put so much work into. And for all his bad jokes and immaturity, Ted makes her smile, and his hands make her tingle all over.

And when Ted comes home from a failed attempt to pick up a woman somewhere, finding her alone and tracing the contours of her body, comparing them to the Lemniscate of Gerono, it's not difficult to see how Ted benefits.

Maybe someone cast a spell on them. Maybe it's mind control. It's inexplicable, but somehow, for now, it's working.

Whatever it is, it's definitely not boring.
