I got the feeling that Jo would've traveled with the Doctor even after she married but she wanted to be with her husband and help the world that way. It would've been nice if there had been an episode or two with Jo and her husband. But times were also different then since this was in the 70s and Jo left the show because she was getting married. It seems like any hint of marriage and the couple would leave.

Plus three just up and left her without a word so it's not like it was really her choice or anything.

I'm pretty sure that back when Jo left in The Green Death, no one -- not the Doctor nor anyone else -- said she couldn't have stayed in UNIT *and* be married. She was the one who left because, I dunno, it was the done thing back then and it didn't occur to her that she might come back after the expedition was over.

So now when she hears about Amy and Rory, she's like "D'oh!"

But then again, things had turned out very well for her in the meantime, and I doubt she actually had any serious regrets or would really have traded in the life she had for more Doctor adventures. It was just a little "road not taken" moment, like anyone would have had.

I haved watched the scene with Jo leaving and there seems no regret, she seems more excited about starting her new life with her fiancee. Some of the Nu-who canon is difficult to watch, as there is no evidence either Jo and Sarah Jane carrying a torch---loving the Doctor as one would a cherished friend yes. Wondering around their new lives, always looking back in regret, we never thought this happened. Traveling with the Doctor was like having the best private, concentrated studies school eve, with your favorite teacher becoming your best mate.
And I should have been clearer--I was looking at the NU-Who canon, which seems to leave the impression that the Doctor left a trail of broken hearts and spirits, especially among the female companions, and that the female companion ,couldn't managed a full life without a Doctor.
