Please, talk to a lawyer or the local housing authorities. The fact that they claim they weren't paid in spite of deductions from your account by the bank system that they recommended, demanded cash in a hurry, and threw you out with little notice smells very, very fishy.

I've heard of the near-eviction, or eviction-staying 'cash' policy. . .lived in a building where it was written into the application and rental agreement - BUT they ALSO accepted money orders and certified cheques in such situations.
