Rey wore a maroon dress, flowing and loose, more robes than actual dress. She had borrowed it from a fighter pilot who had worn it on her own wedding day. Finn wore a white button-up shirt with black pants. And Poe’s jacket - at Rey’s insistence.

Pretty much the whole base turned up for the ceremony - “The saviors of the Resistance are getting married,” Poe had said with a grin. “Everyone’ll wanna be there.”

“They don’t have to come,” Rey had said, noting the worry on Finn’s face. “It can just be a small, quiet thing. You know I’m fine with that.”

“It’s not that,” Finn had said, softly. “It’s just that, I’m not a savior. I’m just some idiot kid who fell into something.”

There was a snort from behind them then and Finn had jumped, startled to find the General standing there. “That’s exactly how I’d describe my brother when he first joined the rebels. Some idiot kid.”

“Weren't you the same age?” Poe had asked and then immediately stopped talking at the look on Leia’s face, which seemed the best course of action for all involved.

But the base - oh yes, the whole base turned up. Save for those few poor souls who got stuck on sentry and radar duties. Everyone else would tell them the story of the wedding for weeks to come, describing every detail down to the petals on the flower in Rey’s hair.

“I can’t believe you missed it,” they’d say and then shake their heads in pity.

It was an outdoor wedding and the skies were grey overhead, but the rain stayed off long enough for the ceremony.

“Do you pledge to stand by one another through all the trials and tribulations that life brings you?” Poe asked - it had been Leia’s idea that Poe present them, even though Poe had come to ask the general herself to do the honors.

“I’d be delighted, but don’t you think the man who brought them together should do the job?” she’d asked him.

“By that logic, BB-8 should officiate the whole thing,” Poe had told her, but hadn’t minded too much when Leia had whispered the idea of Poe presenting them in Rey’s ear.

“Do you pledge to be there through good times and bad,” Poe asked and then looked up from where his head had been solemnly bowed and added, “Through the Resistance and the First Order?”

“Completely off-script,” Leia muttered to herself - though not without affection - from the spot where she stood just behind and to the left of Rey.

“Through exploding bases and people trying to steal your droids? Through missile strikes and escaped Rathtar’s?”

Rey laughed then, almost lilting, and Finn looked from his best friend, smirking at them with amusement, to the woman he loved, laughing in delight at Poe’s ridiculousness, and felt his whole body flood with warmth.

“Do you pledge to always support and love and protect each other? Forever?”

“I pledge,” they both said at once.

“BB-8?” Poe asked and the droid rolled forward and extended two sliver wrist-bands from inside his center.

Poe took the bracelets and gave one each to Rey and Finn.

“I pledge myself to you,” Finn said, sliding a band around Rey’s wrist. He let his tears fall without shame.

“I pledge myself to you,” Rey said, and slid the other band around Finn’s wrist, swallowing hard at the lump in her throat.

“Do the kissing thing,” Poe whispered then, leaning in towards them.

And they did. Soft and slow, like it was their first time, though it wasn’t by a long measure. But this, this was a first of a whole new kind.

It was a simple ceremony, in the end, despite the crowd in attendance. And quiet, up until the moment of the kiss, when several hundred voices rose up in boisterous cheering and clapping.

Some whistling.

And one wookie throwing his head back in delight.

The crowd was a distant buzz to them both though, as Finn took Rey’s hand in his own.

“What did I tell you about that?” Rey asked him, looking down at their joined hands.

“That you can run without me holding your hand,” Finn said with a sigh and then leaned in close. “But we aren’t running anymore.”

“No,” Rey said with a soft smile. “No, we aren’t. Besides, I believe I made an amendment to my earlier statement - that you are to never let go.”

And Finn had no intention of doing so. Because they weren’t running anymore.

They had both, finally, found home.
