Walking down the steps today from work to my next class, I saw written in a fine line of pencil "I go to coledge" the anticipated humor stemming from the mis-spelling of college, however the irony was already delivered in that it was pencil on the wall something one would think above a college student. It was an act of trying to get some attention ( Read more... )

I have always felt that validation in the manner that you speak of is actually harmful to people. However, No man is an island. To find true validation one must be validated by one's self or by the reactions of others not through direct questioning.

There is looking for validation, and then there's looking for advice. One is silly and ego fufilling, the other is an honest attempt to make the right descision. I sometimes confuse the two(tho not often), do you make sure not to as well?

Yay Poems!

I think about validation A LOT. One time when it came up as an issue in my behavior, I thought to myself, "Yikes, I get my validation from people ( ... )

Performance can go too ways, vanity or validation. your sharing something you created or your crediting your music because people like it.

I don't care about weakness, anyone can be weak that wants, it's just not gonna get any points from me, hell i have my own weakness' but i accept them, I don't look to others to make my existence count.

I think un-asked-for validation is wonderful.
The other kind, I'm sortof on the fence with. The situation you described sounds like pure vanity to me, kinda dumb, but sometimes my mom'll ask me if the outfit she picked out works together and stuff, and that seems ok to me. Yeah, doing dumb stuff hurts and you want to avoid it, but sometimes when you care about people you want to help them avoid feeling totally stupid? You could also then get stuck on the 'why didn't you tell me i looked dumb?!?!' thing...

because if you think you look good in an outfit what does it matter what anyone else thinks? I don't care if someone does something dumb, I'll say atleast you learned and i'll feel bad but don't ask for me to make it like it was ok, you did something dumb, live with it. I don't think validation should come from anywhere but within, if your living your life for other people waht's the point it stops being your life and starts being theirs.
