[lame] Title: P.O.V.
Rating: [high] hard R
Pair: Jack/Ianto [natch]

This is the companion piece to Thistle Bomb, told from Jack's point of view.

Ianto Jones was driving Jack crazy. He had only been working there for a few weeks and every time Jack saw him, he wanted him a little more. Every day Jack would watch him as he slipped through the Hub, ( Read more... )

I knew this fic was worth the read just by taking a glimpse at who the author was. It did take me a few paragraphs to realize why it all seemed so familiar (I missed the obvious introduction, yeah), but I really enjoyed the sweet confusion I felt while reading it. All new and yet so familiar. Felt fantastically surreal for a few minutes.
But then I remembered - a good piece of writing that got to me so much I forgot to actually put it in words...
Writing both POVs is quite the exercise, you pulled it off wonderfully.
I didn't think this could get to me in the same way the first did, though. The first one let me hurting; you paint Ianto's inner torment so well. But this... it's so real. We're all basically dumb creatures when it comes to matters of the heart, unable to say what we want and missing so much because of it. I suspected Jack was hurt too, that he wasn't as much of an insensitive prick as he seemed to be in the first version. So weird to see Captain Jack Harkness act so human, so unlike the image of himself he projects to ( ... )

Oh my god, thank you so much. Writing the other POV was tricky, trying to keep up with what had already happened, even when Jack was trying to move in another direction.

I didn't set out to make this a series. I've never written one, they seem so daunting. But I think this one does demand follow-up.

But the PAIN!! Oh, god, the pain. Poor guys.

That was very lovely. Really well done. I wasn't expecting to be moved by Jack's POV, but I was. And of course I want to find out what happens in the morning....

I think we can rest assured that the morning will bring more pain and heartache for our guys. Which, you know, is kind of excellent.

Just read this and Thistle Bomb back to back - fantastic! Much as I loved Thistle Bomb, not least for Ianto's underlying knowledge that Lisa couldn't be saved and yet he'd still have to play things out to their conclusion - this is definitely my favourite. I love Jack's thoughts, berating himself over how he believes he sounds, and it's hilaious to realise that the Whiskey Ianto was worried was something rare that should be savoured was actually really cheap and Jack was embarrassed to be offering it to Ianto. Seeing the previous story from the other perspective is just so much fun, and Jack's sadness at Ianto leaving is rather touching.
