Action
[Some of the neighbors to 1646 Albright Lane may have heard a woman screaming out. Anyone inside or within a few yards of the house would have heard that what she had screamed out on waking up bolt upright in bed was "Harry ( Read more... )

[Hermione had never heard either one of Harry's parents for obvious reasons, but if there was one thing she had never expected it was to hear them. Something caught in her throat at the woman's words. my husband was killed ... I thought I died too. That made it only obvious when she was from.]

[When the woman is done she tries to word it properly before making a call back.]

It's a place called Mayfield, we're told it's in the United States, but since we can't actually leave it's not completely certain.

[Simple, it's an answer. Certainly not an answer on neither son or husband, but Hermione's still trying to work out the first question not to mention she believes Harry should be the one for that.]

[She doesn't recognize the voice on the other end, but the information given willingly seemed to say "I can trust this woman". Something that was rather hard to come by in her own times.]

But... I'm from England. How have I gotten to what's supposedly the United States?

As am I and a few others. [She doesn't add people from other worlds are here as well.] Not by any normal methods, technically Mayfield has kidnapped us. It has it's own ability to do that we're not quite sure of yet.

Kidnapped us... [There's a hint of shock in her tone and a few minutes of silence falls as she holds the receiver to her chest, processing that whatever force behind this Mayfield place, whether magic or something else entirely, it probably wouldn't let her go home.] How long have you been here?

[James has made his way outside, to the yard behind the house. When he hears Lily scream, however, he bolts back inside. He left through the front door, and he gets a little turned around before he figures out where the bedroom is from there. Once he finds it, however, she's not there.] Dammit.

[He heads downstairs, retracing his own steps from earlier, and sees her at the phone.]

Lily.

[Lily spins around when she hears her name and her eyes widen in shock. A slightly shaking hand puts down the phone and in a matter of seconds she is clinging tight to him, near tears. She never thought she'd see James again.]

James... I thought you had died.

[James holds Lily tight, burying his face in her hair. One of them is trembling and he's pretty sure it's him.]

I think i did. The last thing I remember is the Killing Curse, and then I woke up here... But- you , what happened to you?

[Funny, because Lily's pretty sure she's shaking instead of him.]

I ran, like you said. I went upstairs and put Harry down in his room. I tried barricading the door but he got in. He told me he'd let me live if I handed over Harry, but... I couldn't, James, I could never do such a thing! And then... there was the Killing Curse, and I woke up in this house. [She squeezes him tighter, pressing her head into his shoulder.] I don't know what's happened to Harry. He... he could be... he could be...

[She can't bring herself to say it. It's too horrifying to think about and the tears are pricking at the corners of her eyes, even as she fights them back.]

Welcome to Mayfield. It's better than being dead, but not by much?

...So marginally better than being dead?

Yeah, I suppose that's about right.

That's... good to know. [she sighs, sounding so unsure...]

There's not much to tell, unfortunately. This is Mayfield, and they kidnap people to make us live here. Even people who are dead. So if you thought you were...you probably are. But you're alive again now, so...try to enjoy it~.

That'll be difficult, once things start going strangely again.

How can I enjoy being alive knowing the two people I love most are likely to be dead?

They might well be here. Or you ask yourself if they would have wanted you to be tormented for the rest of your life if you got a second chance.

[She's silent for several minutes. It's a well-made point... and she knew James wouldn't want to see her moping around.]

If they are here, how would I go about finding them?

Nope. No way. Not you, too, Lils. This isn't happening. Go find your husband and promptly tell him to stop existing, thank you very much.

Padfoot! [do you remember this scolding tone, Sirius?] I will do no such thing, thank you very much.

[Oh lord, that tone. He can't help but wince a little. Okay... maybe she was real. He almost sounds surprised when he says,]

...Lily?
