No, it isn't. There is nothing childish about being ashamed that you are too apathetic to give a damn. And there is certainly nothing childish about continuing to fight through your apathy that our president seems to take as approval to do everything.
lucas,...this kaetien person makes me mad. what's the harm in expressing your thoughts? both of you have the right to say what you feel, but to me it seems like she thinks your post is how everyone should feel which is not the case. i feel like your post a lot though. i have also done what she says...been involved. i have worked with the parties, i do research, i spread the word, and i try to be as knowledgable as i can be. one of the worst things i think is that americans really do believe that we know it all when in fact our own media puts a sheet over everything. and the saddest thing is that the truth is at our fingertips. millions of americans are online...just go to websites with the UK CNN or in fact ANY news journal from another country and we're not told what really goes on
( ... )
I am ashamed because people will look at this and say "Lucas is on his political soapbox again - but what he doesn't understand is that there's nothing we can do."
Well, you certainly nailed this one.
It is true that if you don't try to do anything, you won't be disappointed in the results. The "one person can't make a difference" argument may have some validity if that was even the point of your post. And admitedly, there have been many times in history in which one person has made all the difference. But that's not the issue.
Some people aren't patriotic, so who cares that I had to practically disrobe in the middle of the terminal in order to get on a plane to Portland.
Some people aren't political, so who cares that my existence is considered an insult to be used by one candidate against their opponent.
Who cares. It doesn't affect them. So why should they go shout about the atrocities?
And soon enough, there will be no uproar in the streets because we will no longer have the freedom to do so.
