Character info

Series/Fandom: Ace Attorney - specifically Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
Character's Name: Dahlia Hawthorne
Character's Sex: Female
Character's Age: 25
Canon point: A few days before her execution. Dahlia had met her mother in the Detention Centre and agreed to help her murder Maya Fey. Her being executed and later channelled by Pearl Fey was part of the plan. However, the Heartless came before it could have been carried out..

Abilities: Dahlia has no weapons (unless her parasol counts) or fighting abilities. She is just your everyday human being, really, with basic human abilities. Not even magical powers to poison people with paopu fruit or ice cream (although that would be cool).

Strengths: While she is not a very strong fighter, physically, Dahlia is (once her health returns) surprisingly an incredibly good swimmer. She was able to survive the swift currents of the Eagle River when she jumped off the bridge. It is said that most people who fall into Eagle River are never seen again and, as Mia Fey suggests, Dahlia was confident that she could handle the currents, which suggests how strong a swimmer she actually is.

Dahlia is also an incredibly beautiful young woman who enjoys doing her hair, wearing make-up and dressing up in smart and girly clothes (especially dresses). This works greatly to her advantage when she wants to use her seemingly kind-hearted personality to get her own way.

Weaknesses: Despite coming from a family of spirit mediums, Dahlia has little to no spiritual powers herself (which was why her mother rejected her) and is really just a normal human being with no superpowers (unless the ability to be absolutely charming and manipulative counts). Like the others in the game, she will have the potential to learn magic and may attempt to do so if she sees it to her own advantage but until then, she is just a normal civilian.

As mentioned in the Strengths section, Dahlia is not physically very strong either. Unless she is taught how to fight, she will have a very difficult time surviving against the Heartless. Having stabbed your stepsister to death, unfortunately for her, does not count as being decent in combat.

Additionally, Dahlia comes to Traverse Town just a few days before she was supposed to be executed. She has spent five years in prison and therefore will be quite ill and weak when she arrives in the game. It may take Dahlia a while to recover and return to her normal health, which will also give her a disadvantage against the Heartless. She will also find it harder to charm people with her looks until she becomes well again (although that won’t stop her from trying!).

Appearance: http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y71/Emmy19/Dollieeeee.jpg

Personality: When one first meets Dahlia, she appears to be a kind, gentle, shy and submissive girl. She is polite, gets frightened easily (especially by things like thunder), cries when people are being horrible to her, has an incredibly pretty smile and loves romantic things such as walks, flowers and poetry.

Dahlia’s cringingly-sweet nature is actually just as false as it sounds. The real Dahlia is actually an intelligent but cruel, bitter and manipulative woman who uses her beauty and charms in order to get her own way. She cares about absolutely nobody’s well-being except her own (she admits this in the game) and will take whatever measures she can to ensure her own safety - even if it means resorting to murder (as long as she can get away with it by framing somebody else), or ruining someone’s life (she even managed to manipulate one person, Terry Fawles, into committing suicide). She despises good people (such as Phoenix and her own twin sister), thinking that they are utterly pathetic and naive.

A great many villains are villains for a reason, however, and Dahlia is no exception. Neither of her parents loved her - her mother was only interested in having a daughter who had enough spiritual power to become head of the Kurain Channelling Technique (which neither Dahlia nor her twin sister had and so their mother lost interest in them) and her father had no care for children whatsoever (as Dahlia managed to persuade him to give up Iris to the Hazakura Temple). As a result, Dahlia grew up, learning to rely only on herself and watch over for her own well-being.

If anything one can say that deep down, Dahlia is a lonely young woman who is resentful at not being cared for by her own family. She completely feels justified in her actions, as they were all in one way or another, to either protect herself or for revenge on someone who had hurt her. Dahlia’s truly selfish nature will prevent her from realising and admitting her loneliness, however. She only says that her mother is a twisted woman and that she wanted revenge on her father (as she admitted to Phoenix when posing as Iris).

Iris, who truly did love her sister, felt that she was much better-off than Dahlia because at least Sister Bikini at the temple treated her as if she were her own daughter. Therefore, Iris is convinced that had Dahlia lived with her at the Hazakura Temple, she would have had a much better life with people who cared for her. Dahlia, however, is too self-centred to realise that her twin wanted the best for and only felt that she was a ‘nothing but a backstabber’ for failing to help her in her plans and felt that she was a 'nuisance'.

While it might not seem so at first glance, Dahlia is an extremely dangerous woman and it would be best to stay away from her if you know what is good for you. If you do manage to expose her for what she truly is (like Mia Fey did), she will hate you forever and do whatever she can in her power to make you suffer.

Strengths: Dahlia is an extremely skilled actress - her sweet smile, her pleasant manners - they can charm a poor victim at the drop of a hat, no matter what garbage she spouts out. This enables her to make ‘friends’ easily and get gullible men to fall in love with her, manipulating them to do her bidding.

Dahlia is also a quick thinker and very confident in her acting abilities. This gives her an advantage when someone (like Mia Fey) suspects her dark nature as she is able to cover it up with some lie. And even if the person who suspects her is not convinced by it, other people around them will be, putting the person distrusting Dahlia at a big disadvantage.

Weaknesses: Dahlia’s inability to care for other people or feel any remorse for her actions is her main weakness. She is unable to attach herself or relate to others and only pretends to so she can get her own way. Dahlia also has little understanding of what love really is, thanks to her unhappy childhood. Both her lack of concern for others and her inability to be close to people put her at a severe disadvantage because had she been able to trust and care for someone, Dahlia might have been able to see that Iris really did love her and would have perhaps felt less lonely and bitter, giving her the ability to make true friends. Instead, the way she behaves towards other people makes her only more alone in the world.

Additionally, while Dahlia is a very good actress, the fact that she sometimes exaggerates the facade of a sweet girl could put her at a severe disadvantage. Someone who is perceptive enough could realise that something is not quite right about her and while Dahlia does have the ability to smile sweetly and make up something when she is trying to get herself out of a mess, if someone who is suspicious of her pushes her enough, she will snap and her real character will start to show, which could put her in a very weak position, especially if she is trying to cover up for a crime.

Action/Journal Sample:
[The feed clicks on and on the video display is a young woman with red hair. She looks frail, pale, very sick and weak - as if she had not been outside for a very long time. The woman glances slowly at the camera before taking a deep breath and starting to speak.] Um....good evening, to you all, um....[She looks down at her feet. It seems as if she is very nervous.]

Sorry, everyone. This is my first time using this device and I'm not very good with technology. I’m sorry if I make lots of mistakes...

My name is D......D-Dianne! Dianne Smith! I’ve only just arrived here. This is such a huge town and I’m already lost. I hope it’s not much to ask, but could anyone help me?

This place is so big and overwhelming. It’s not like my nice, quiet little village back home, in the mountains where so many wildflowers grew....But now everyone’s gone.....[And she starts to weep. Does she not look just kind and innocent? DOESN’T SHE?]

RP Sample:
Dahlia could not believe what had just happened. She had just bumped into Donald Duck? Donald Duck?! That annoying character from some silly children’s cartoon?!

“It’s as if I had already died and hell had a sick sense of humour,” she muttered to herself quietly. “As if this place wasn’t miserable enough.”

However,, even Dahlia herself could not deny that this strange new world was better than being in prison, awaiting her execution. One advantage of being in a bizarre place like this is that she had yet to meet anybody who recognised her. Nobody in the town knew that Dahlia was a convicted criminal. Because of that, it was much easier for her to start a new life - and by start a new life, she meant find new ‘friends’ who would not suspect her and she could use. Perhaps it would not be so bad.

Even if she also ended up running into someone like Snow White......the thought made her cringe.

Dahlia looked glanced around the street. She was ravenous. Time to find somewhere to eat. Hopefully, not too far. Her health was improving but Dahlia was still not strong enough to walk very far.

Before Miss Hawthorne could set off, however, something bumped into her and knocked her straight over, making her drop her parasol.

“AAAAAAHHHH!”

She rubbed her arms as she tried to get up. Who the hell had...?

“Ah! I’m sorry, madam!”

Dahlia glanced up and saw a man staring down at her, looking mortified. Why did that idiot not look where he was going?! She thought, feeling very irritated. However, Dahlia could not let this show - to everybody in this town, she was Dianne Smith - the helpless, lost girl who had arrived in Traverse Town only a few weeks earlier. Even though nobody here knew who she really was, she could not let her guard down.

“Oh, i-it’s all right!” she stammered before getting up. “It’s only an accident. Ummm....could you help me for a second?” And with that, Dahlia gave the man a gentle, pleading smile.

Have you read the rules & F.A.Q.s? Yep!
