I understand everyone's embarrassment about the contraceptives, really, but I do urge everyone to take advantage of them nonetheless. Condoms may be embarrassing -- I'm not sure I'd want to ask anybody else for them, either. But being at fault for an unplanned pregnancy would be a dozen times worse, and there's no way to change your mind after that

They could, but it's much more convenient this way. We'd have to stock up at Hogsmeade or something like that.
