While I appreciate such devotion to religious beliefs among many of the students, I'd like to remind everyone that we should avoid using the things that we've given up for Lent as a reason to be more irritable. Furthermore, if someone is keeping what they've given up away from view, that does not give anybody the right to take it for themselves. ( Read more... )

Put simply, Christian tradition says that there were around 40 days between Jesus' death and His resurrection, the death being remembered a few days ago and the resurrection being remembered on Easter. In the days between, some people honour Jesus by giving something up; that's what we call Lent.

Well, I've never heard of anyone giving up singing for Lent... perhaps it's because it's so frequently used to praise God.
