Maladicta walked in as she knocked thereby affectively rendering the knock unnecessary.

"I knew I'd catch one of you," she said, smiling, moving immediately to sit on the edge of his desk.

"Typical," she said with a faint shrug. "Ideal time to practice lines, and I'm partnered with Constable Fraser, who is, of course, unfailingly pleasant."

William's eyebrow twitched upwards a little.

But then, it was entirely possible this incarnation of the constable was not an insufferable zealot with poor reading comprehension and an inflated sense of his own cultural sensitivity.

At least he didn't have to bother himself with finding out.

"I'm sure," he said. His subject on this was purposefully vague. "How are you doing with the lines, anyway?"
