Maladicta had now been carrying a very small human around inside of herself for about half a year. She wasn't used to it yet. She couldn't help but feel that was some sort of portent.
"Hello, darling," she said, strolling, because that was as slow as she would allow herself to get (no waddling. No waddling ever). As greetings went, this was a particularly loaded one. It was the darling. It shouldn't have been so hard to tell where you stood in regards to a darling.
William started, looking up and stopping three letters into Victoria.
It was worrying that he couldn't tell how she meant that, if not exactly unusual. A lot of things worried him. The possibility of being assaulted by his pregnant wife was simply an addition to the list.
"Er, hello dear," he said. "What brings you down here?"

She found a place to sit and sat. Carefully. She rested the tip of her chin on the back of her wrist.
"What are you up to?"

"Wouldn't that be warmer? No, never mind," he said. "I'm just, er, tinkering around."
He finished the name, deemed it unsatisfactory, and removed all the letters to start again.
