Y'know, this has me both glad that I live in Canada, *and* worried that we could be suffering some of the same here as a result of similar lax standards. I wouldn't even know where to begin to look with regards to checking into local feed for both pork and chicken production, especially as it pertains to toxic grain coming out of China. I think I shall endeavor to only buy local products in which the produce is scratch fed or grass fed. Rather thankfully I do have that option here, even if it does mean spending more on food.

Actually, in this case Canada is far better off--there are regulations (which are actually enforced that prohibit "reject" pet food from being recycled into livestock feed (these regs were passed in the light of mad cow, but prohibit both table scraps and dog food from being ingredients in hog slop (among other things) in Canada--stuff that is still allowed in the US).

Still, looking for local grain would be a good idea, especially as melamine doping may be quite widespread and I will honestly be surprised if it doesn't turn up in grain-only livestock feed like Calf-Manna eventually.

I rather thought as much regarding the situation here in Canada, however, one never knows, especially with cross boarder trade coming in, supposedly for stuff like this as well. I know there were petfood recalls here. If there were petfood recalls, there may well be other recalls. I'm trying to play the possibilities and potentialities in all this, which is why I wasn't sure. Anything is possible.
