I've just spent 15 minutes on the phone with the customer line for Hills UK. Very emphatic that none of their products in the EU are affected by the recall, none of their ingredients are sourced from China, no sick pets in the USA have been affected by a Hills product (which sounds extremely dubious to me), etc, etc. *wipes off the PR*

They're meant to be getting back to me with details of exactly where they do source their grain from. I suspect it may require Nagging, but I'll keep you updated.

a) Asking if their products based in the EU are or aren't recalled isn't the important thing.

The important thing is asking if they--or the company they are purchasing from--is using any Chinese-origin grain ( ... )

..your Hills rep is so full of bullshit on this one

That was the general impression I got, yes. :) I did repeat several times variants on "do you get any grain from China", and got dodgy responses about how they aren't recalled, aren't affected, yadda yadda yadda.

What I did also do was contact one of their competitors and ask the same questions, and immediately got offered a copy of a press release. By snail mail, no less. Will be interesting to look over that one.

I have to say, I didn't know we had a ban on Chinese grain already in place. That is marginally reassuring.

I guess the two big questions now become, 1) what can I feed my beloved kitty at this point, and 2) what specifically should I personally not be eating, since so much stuff is now potentially contaminated.

That, right there, is the million-dollar question that EVERYONE here is asking, to be honest ( ... )
