If I wanted an unreliable narrator I'd read Lovecraft who just can't explain the unexplainable

Finished reading a sucky book my mother gave me.
"Komm, süßer Tod" by Wolf Haas
It was an Austrian detective story about a former policeman/retired PI who started working as an ambulanceman JUST BECAUSE. Then some murders occurred and his boss forced him to investigate. I mean that man used to be a detective, right? But it turned out the boss was ( Read more... )

When you read a shitty book, always remember...there's worse (Twilight).

Oh man, you reminded me, I have to get my ass to playing Mother 3!

Mother 3 is the GBA sequel to Super Nintendo classic Mother 2, also known as "Earth Bound" in the US. They never released it outside of Japan despite being a hella tight game. It's basically an RPG set in a modern environment instead of the usual medieval fantasy shebang. Potions => hamburgers, magic => psychic powers, weapons => baseball bats, pistols, etc. It's got a wacky humour with a lot of quirky, loveable characters and totally weird monster designs.
In case you've played Smash Bros: Ness is the protagonist from Mother 2. Even in Japan it's a little hard finding M3 in stores nowadays, and I don't suppose they still sell Earthbound anywhere in America, so it should be totally alright to use the emulated versions. I wholeheartedly recommend dling both games!!!

Oh God Maxi, let alone the title of that book...

What is all this Mother stuff and what system is it on and what is it about and is it worth getting?

I know, but I'm always trying to read/play/listen to/watch/.../FINISH the stuff that's been given to me. SPOILERS: The title is a play on how they killed the grandmothers. Put sugar water in their drips for when they got diabeetus.

See comment above! Mother 2 was about a boy who gets told by a magic alien bee from the future that he's the chosen one. Then he sets out and battles Franky, Scientology/the KKK, zombies, the Leviathan, dinosaurs and aliens in America, Egypt and at the Center of the Earth, together with his friends the token female, the future dalai lama and a british nerd who sometimes gets awkward calls from his gay roommate who has a major crush on him. In the end they have to travel through time to defeat the universal evil which has a form that cannot be explained.
In Mother 3 the lackey of the evil entity from Mother 2 returns and runs amok on a peaceful island. He manipulates the people, transforms animals into weird chimeras and a lot of different stuff that leads to certain tragedies... uhhh can't spoil too much.

Seriously, compared to this book Twilight is at least amusing in some way... XD I don't know why everyone compares bad stories with Twilight, where's the City of Bones hate? That book is by far the worst ever. *shivers* You really should read it.. XD

I want to play Mother 3 too.. ;_;

Twilight being the worst book ever is just the latest fad I guess? WILLING TO ROLL WITH THIS OF COURSE
Maybe if they make a film of City of Bones that work gets its well-deserved share of diss. Seeing how it's just as popular (= never heard of it but there's fans nonetheless) we might get lucky after all ¦ D

THEN DO IT FOR GREAT JUSTICE! *** ∀***

Ack, if the book's written in the same style as the third Amazon comment, I couldn't have read it! It sounds aweful.
I don't like reading books that much, because they mostly bore the hell out of me..... :( I feel pretty shallow because of that, but I just cannot fight it.
I mostly read English books (just to practice English, I guess), funny, creepy or documentary books. I don't like novels at all ;(

Hurhurhur, I clicked on the "this review wasn't helpful" button and now it's the fourth comment in the list. YESSS. Glad we can agree that this style is god-awful ¦ D
It's totally okay if you're not into reading books. I blame it on today's authors! Because there's just too much garbage out there. Good thing there's always games and comics to turn to HUH
