And *that* is one of the reasons that I didn't get a greyhound when I went looking for a medieval dog breed. Griffon would simply try to play with the little prey-dog.

I knew the grey hound was fast, and a hunter, but I never ..REALLY.... gave it much thought till I was in the mix.....

It's not so much a question of hunting instinct, or even speed. It's that fact that they are NOT NICE. They are nice to larger humans because "pack mentality" dictates that we're more likely to be leaders. But they're terrible with anything smaller than themselves... which includes children. Griffon is frighteningly fast, and tangling with a bulldog has been described as fighting a creature with the head of an alligator and the body of a python, but a bulldog would never, ever, ever attack something that posed no threat.

Greyhounds are just dogs. They've been bred to have a strong chase instinct. That's it. Saying greyhounds are mean is just as inaccurate as saying rottweilers (or pit bulls, or bulldogs, etc) are vicious and aggressive. The breed has certain predispositions, true, but if dogs act "mean" 99.9% of the the fault lies with the owner. Those 3 women should have had better control of their dogs. The greyhounds shouldn't have been allowed to chase until permission was given.
