The Final Problem - saner, non-keyboard-smashy thoughts. Lots of them.

Okay, now that the immediate and momentary effusions of squee are over and sober second thoughts have largely eradicated them, a somewhat more balanced post on The Final Problem and its many problems.

I don't absolutely love it, and here's why )

sherlock: s4 spoilers, thoughts, sherlock: the final problem

All the reasons you listed are exactly what rubbed me the wrong way about TFP.
Thank goodness for good fic writers like you to make sense of nonsense.

Thanks!

Since I posted this I've done a complete end-to-end re-watch of S4. I'm pretty sure if I were to write this post again now, some of my points might be the same. But I think I like it more now that I'm starting to get me head around the Eurus storyline. Or maybe people smarter than me have managed to explain it to me so that it makes more sense.

As to using fic to make sense of it...well, other than additions to Holmes family canon, I don't think I'm going to be taking much from any of these episodes. Overall, none of them are real standouts for me; on the other hand, none of them are anywhere near as dire as TBB or THoB.
