Too darn hot

I know it's a common theme but, blimey, it's rather warm at the moment isn't it?

Possibly not the best of days to be redecorating...  Definitely not a good day for slogging back from the hardware shop laden with three huge tins of paint and some pollyfiller either...  Certainly an idiotic day to be taking down 8 foot shelves by yourself.  At least I ( Read more... )

With you on the warm thing, infact I was off work today with I think heat stroke, felt really ill. Decorating in this weather, you must be mad but I suppose you have to do these jobs when you can. I'ts definitely the ceiling first, then I've been told the woodwork, then the walls. Good luck with it.

Poor you! Hope you're feeling better soon.

Thanks for the tip - will get cracking on the ceiling tomorrow (in a very slow and gentle fashion).

Decorating is one step too far in this heat. Madness in extremis. Or very brave - not sure which. At least the paint will dry quickly, probably before it gets the chance to drip from the ceiling!

Make sure you get a really good chair if you are going to spend a lot of time on it.

Like the take on the dripping paint!

I know a good chair is really important - am just loath to start shelling out before I at least start to get a bit more money coming in. There's so much that needs buying at the beginning it's hard to know how to prioritise.

Yup, ceilings are first. Be sure to roll in one direction the first time, and then the opposite for the second coat. That way you can see where you've missed or it's thin.

Man, it's hot here too. Must be global warming. *melts*

Good luck with the decorating. Painting is a chore, but at least it's fairly cheap to do and it makes a world of difference.

Ceiling, then walls (because if you have painted your woodwork, and then paper the walls for instance, you get residual glue etc on your woodwork, think about it), then woodwork last. Do, the edges of your walls first with a small paint brush. E.g, up to the coving, edges around door frames, up to the skirting boards, and then roller.

Good luck.
