Settling in

Jul 27, 2006 22:07

Well, I'm finally here in the office!  It's taken nearly two weeks of sweat and bruises but I've made it at last.  The angel on my shoulder won and I haven't bought any new furniture, unfortunately, making do means I've got virtually no storage space - just piles of stuff on desks and the floor.  Hey ho.  Cable spaghetti was an utter nightmare as ( Read more... )

Sounds to me like you are off and running! With a little interior decorating on the side! It seems you have everything under control except the weather and London Transit which makes you a member in good standing of a very large and exclusive club!

You even balanced your books (yeah, I read and didn't comment....I know, I should be shot!) And from what you're saying, it sounds like you already know all the "right" people, so your marketing should take right off with word of mouth.

"I saw Gwen the other day."
"Really? How is the old girl?"
"Really great actually, she's gone and started a business all on her own."
"No!"
"Yes!"
"She any good?"
"How the hell am I supposed know?"
"You said you saw her."
"I did, at a Posh Restaurant."
"Oh! Well that't it then, isn't it? You don't see bad photographers at a Posh Restaurant."
"Right"
"Well then, do you have her number? I need a layout for my business and I have many, many branch offices all over the world. You suppose she travels?"

If you could see the state of my *cough* office, I don't think you'd be getting too exciting about my interior decorating skills. Really, it was just slapping a bit of paint about in a vaguely co-ordinated fashion. The weather seems to be beyond comprehension, let alone control right now. Honestly, I know it was hot when I saw you last, but right now, it's even hotter here and we never get weather like this usually...

Once again, I feel as though you should salaried as my marketing guru! It's obvious now I think about it. Not only should I be targetting Very Posh Restaurant, but all those lovely ex-clients. Send them a few snaps in a 'just thought you'd like to see how lovely you looked the other night' kind of way.

"You suppose she travels?"

Oh, if only...

Sounds like you are definitely off and running. New Office and your accounts department is in full swing, even the slight teething problems with the transport department will/should sort themselves out.

Fun aside. Hope everything is going as planned.

Need to give those boys in transportation a boot up the bum - no pay rise for them unless they get their act together!

I love the part about sending old client's pix of them to drum up business.

Will you get into doing other events such as weddings, parties, etc? You could probably make some great contacts at those as well. It's all about making connections and contacts and word-of-mouth between people. Market the heck out of yourself at each and every event.

You can then treat yourself to a lovely new office suite.

Obviously need to clear it with the client first (it was them that commissioned the pictures after all) but I shouldn't think it'll be a problem. Am trying desperately not to get sucked into weddings but I guess they're a necessary evil. Parties on the other hand - who doesn't love a party?

Sounds as if you have everything under control. I'm sure all the office fixtures and fittings that you need will soon be on the way as it sounds like you are off to a flying start. Hope lots of very lucrative jobs keep coming in your direction, there's nothing better than word of mouth and personal recommendation to put you on the radar.

Things are going ok so far - that said, I've still got my little comfort buffer of money from the old job. When that runs out, it'll all get terribly serious, terribly quickly. Hopefully I'll be so damn busy (and profitable) by then that it won't matter!
